The most unusual thing is that these lizards take care of the cubs, feed and protect them, although the kids are immediately ready to live on their own. The offspring appears once a year, the female carries the fetus for 4-6 months.

The belttail is very similar in appearance to a small dragon. Unlike other species of lizards, they have embossed plates-scales, strong on the back, and on the stomach they are smaller and softer. The scales located on the tail form peculiar stripes-girdles, which is why their name came from - "girdle tails".
