๐Ÿพ **Why We Don't Use Prong Collars in Our Dog Training Facility** ๐Ÿพ

At our dog training facility, we prioritize the well-being and effective learning of every pup. One of the key decisions we've made is to avoid prong collars in our training methods. Hereโ€™s why:

๐Ÿ” **Science and Behavior**: Prong collars, while designed to provide immediate physical feedback to dogs, can often lead to adverse effects on a dog's behavior. Studies show that using aversive tools can increase anxiety and fear, potentially leading to aggression instead of fostering a trusting relationship between dog and handler.

๐Ÿ’” **Stress and Anxiety**: Dogs may associate the pain of the prong collar with not just their behavior, but with the environment or even their owner. This can create a negative cycle of stress and fear, which undermines the training process and hinders the dog's willingness to learn.

๐Ÿ’ก **Positive Reinforcement**: Our approach is founded on positive reinforcement, which science has shown to be much more effective in promoting lasting behavior change. By rewarding desirable behaviors, we create a strong bond built on trust and motivation, allowing dogs to thrive in a safe and loving environment.

๐Ÿ• **Building Confident Canines**: Our goal is to help dogs build confidence and develop better social skills. By using humane, force-free training methods, we ensure that every dog feels secure and supported, leading to happier, more well-adjusted pets.

๐ŸŒŸ **Join Us!** If you're looking for a training facility that understands the science of canine behavior and prioritizes compassionate methods, we would love to welcome you and your furry friend to our community!

As many of us are trying to stick to our New Years resolutions, I would like to talk about realistic goal setting.

I would love to be a size 6.

There is no way possible that I can become a size 6 in a day, a week or even a month. With proper diet and exercise I could potentially get there in time. Or maybe I have to accept that it's not a reasonable expectation and may have to settle for a size between where I am now and size 6.

I meet clients every day that want to see behavior change in their dogs.
Of course, we all want a dog who is friendly and polite with visitors. Who is good with other dogs. Who isn't destructive in the home etc.

There is no magic training method that makes that happen immediately. Behavior change requires management, time, and hard work.
Sometimes, owners need to lower their expectations and settle for somewhere in between who their dog is now, and who they want their dog to be.

It is unfair and unreasonable to put your dog in situations they are not ready for only to be upset when it goes wrong.

Just like it would be unreasonable for me to buy a size 6 pair of jeans only to rage when they don't fit.

This is what leave it should look like. No yanking no yelling no repeating.

The biggest mistake folks make is to try and teach leave it in the moment that they need it. Teach it beforehand so that when you need it it's going to work.

It's COLD out! Puppy Training when it's freezing is NO FUN.

However it still needs to happen. So here is my advice on this cold winter morning.

Your puppy or young dog is probably not going to go potty OR run around and get exercise if you simply put them out in the yard or on a tie out. Chances are, they will sit by the door and wait for you to let them back in.

Sorry to break it to you, you gotta go outside.

Be prepared. Have a whole layer of warm clothes you can put on quickly. Don't throw on a sweatshirt and slippers and then shiver on the porch begging your dog to go p*e. Take the time to put all the gear on and go out with your dog.

Yes, it's one more annoying step that you probably didn't envision when you picked out the cutest puppy ever.

Winter and puppyhood will pass, I promise

Stay warm and Happy Training

People often meet my dogs and ask "couldn't you just take my dog and send him home trained?"

The answer is YES!

Our board and train program includes 3 weeks in our home where your dog will learn all of the polite behavior that we teach our own dogs. The dogs in our care are treated like family and trained using reward based techniques.

As 2024 comes to a close, I want to thank you all for trusting me to be your dog trainer. When I opened my center, I wanted a place where people felt welcomed and had fun. I love what I do and I'm grateful to all of you.

I'm looking forward to a 2025 full of good dogs and great owners. My goal is to help more dog owners learn that dog training is a joy and not a job.

Happy New Year!
