In July of 2015 Humphrey stole my heart, and today my heart is broken. Sweet Humphrey passed away this morning. I always had bad experiences when grooming schnauzers, and then I met Humphrey. He was so sweet and so lovable. He literally changed my perspective of schnauzers, and I will forever be grateful for that. After getting groomed he would always give me that sad look until I would pick him up and hold him, and I always did. RIP Humphrey you will truly be missed! He was one of a kind. 😇 🌈 💔

This is going to be a long post, but I am hoping I can help someone else not to have to go through what we did. I have done a lot of research the past few days trying to get some answers on what happened to Rosie. I was told it was complications from the anesthesia, but the more I looked into a medication called Vetmedin which she was prescribed prior to surgery the more I am convinced that drug is what ultimately caused her death. I have had multiple dogs who have had a heart murmur had surgery and they had zero complications. That is why this situation bothered me so much.

Wednesday April 10th I took Rosie to the vet to have her leg x-rayed at a vet in Abbeville. Found out she had a heart murmur. Not unusual in small breeds. Scheduled an appointment at the vet in Lake Charles. That vet also recommended she take Vetmedin to “strengthen” her heart prior to surgery.

Friday April 12th picked up a Vetmedin from the vet in Abbeville.

Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th I gave her the medication and noticed she was having side effects. She was not eating very much, very lethargic, coughing, and breathing abnormally. Immediately discontinued the medication!

Wednesday April 17th I dropped her off at the vet. I informed them that she had side effects from the medication and they told me they would have her checked before doing her surgery the next day.

Thursday April 18th she has surgery to get spayed. There was nothing they could do for her leg, so there was procedure done.

Friday April 19th I picked her up at the vet in Lake Charles.

Monday April 22nd the vet in Lake Charles called to check on Rosie. I told them she was still not eating well, very lethargic, and breathing abnormally. Almost the exact same symptoms as before. They told me she was probably in pain to call my vet and get her some pain meds.

Tuesday April 23rd at about 7:15 she comes back inside after going potty outside and she is breathing very heavy. Minutes later she has a really bad seizure, then another one. I called to vet and explained what was happing and they had me bring her in. She ended up having another seizure at the vets office which unfortunately took her life.

After researching this medication and trusting the two vets that told me she needed this medication, I found out this medication gave her the symptoms that it was supposed to be used to treat!

On multiple occasions when I told them what was happening to her no one stepped in to try and help her, and my concerns were repeatedly dismissed.

If your dog is given a medication, please do your research first. I was not told about any of the side effects from either one of the vets. I wish I would have done a lot more research and not have been so trusting.

She was a one year old very active little girl who will be deeply missed! 💔
