If you’re considering a Border Collie and have small children. Nipping and grabbing is instinctual behavior. Border Collies want to please and will try to help you with those children. It won’t look like this, but it may draw blood.

Shortly after moving to Florida seven years ago, I found out I had Parvovirus on my land there. I had some pups that were around 3 months old when the litter came down with parvo. They startled acting sick on Friday evening. By Monday morning, I’d lost three pups. Balder was deathly ill.
Later he developed an abscess from the IV fluids given under his skin. I’m an RN by education and I’ve never been more disheartened by an outcome.
Balder managed to survive and heal, though he didn’t eat anything substantial for weeks.
I post this to remind folks how important puppy vaccinations are. Parvovirus is preventable, but only after 3-4 sets of vaccinations.
Keep your unvaccinated or partially vaccinated pups off grassy areas where an unvaccinated, or feral dog may leave its waste. Areas where coyotes, foxes or wolves may leave their waste, are also dangerous to your pup. Two places I won’t take a pup? Dog walk areas at a highway rest stop, or a dog park or beach.
