These are our newest dogs. The heat is hard on us, but, also soooo hard on them. Early start today. Heat advisory starts at noon. At 10:45, temp was 90, with heat index of 102!!! Keep hydrated out there, but also keep close watch over your dogs!!!! 🥵 🐾 🐾 💦

Prayers for handler and family!!

We are saddened to announce that two weeks ago, on February 2, 2024, K9 Malcom passed away after battling an illness. During his final moments, he was surrounded by his handler, Officer Kelldorf Jr., and fellow officers.

Malcom played a pivotal role in the department's mission, contributing significantly to numerous seizures, including the confiscation of $260,000 in cash and over 500 lbs. of ma*****na. His achievements also encompassed the successful seizure of L*D, he**in, methamphetamine, crack co***ne, co***ne, ecstasy, and kush.

During his 6 years of service with the Pasadena Police Department, Malcom was deployed 160 times and apprehended 19 suspects while demonstrating unwavering dedication and bravery.

The department will forever be grateful for his commitment and valuable contributions, and we will hold Malcom's memory with deep respect.

Our normal October/November recertification class is usually 6 or so people. Delayed by Covid and finally scheduled, and for various reasons, ended up with only two teams. But, we had good training, successful certs and good food & comraderie.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to K9 Nola of Manatee county SO in FL. At over 11yo, she was still working with no signs of slowing down. She had grown a cancerous tumor of which the DR could not remove completely, so it would have only grown again. Our thoughts and prayers are with her handler, Derek, and his family, both blood and blue. RIP sweet Nola. Fly high!!💔🐾🐾🌈🐾🐾❤️.

It is with great sorrow that we post the passing of K9 Kenzo of Pima Co SO, AZ. He gave his life serving his community. Our hearts and prayers are with his handler, Chris Rodriguez and family.

At recent trials in Arizona, this was a tribute to K 9 Handier Matt Solmon whom recently passed away. The dog is K 9 Ryder, his dog at the time of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to his family and unit!! 💔💙💙💔

It is with a heavy heart that the Lake Charles Police Department announces the passing of Retired K-9 Barry.

K-9 Barry honorably served the Lake Charles Police Department from 2012-2018 as a dual-purpose K-9. The 15-year-old Dutch Shepherd passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

K-9 Barry was hired in March of 2012 and his work alongside Sgt. Michael Treadway got underway. Together, they had many successes until K9 Barry’s retirement on December 22, 2018.

Trained in tracking, handler protection, building searches, narcotic detection and criminal apprehension, K-9 Barry had more than 70 apprehensions. Throughout his decorated career, K-9 Barry assisted multiple agencies with countless drug seizures, evidence locations, and apprehensions of fleeing suspects.

He was awarded multiple Chief’s Commendations for his exceptional work and in 2015 he was recognized by the National Police Canine Association for the South-Central Region Patrol Case of the Quarter (3rd Qtr.).

Following his retirement, K-9 Barry spent his days living his dream life with his dedicated and loyal family.

The Lake Charles Police Department extends our sincerest condolences to the Treadway family in their time of loss and asks the community to join us in thanking K-9 Barry for his dedicated and faithful service to our community.
