Due to impending bad weather, our vaccine clinic in Whiteford this Saturday is going to be postponed. We're seeking a new date asap for all the animals who are counting on us. We'll announce it as soon as we get something set up and it will be on our website as well. Please share with anyone you know who was planning to attend. Thank you!

We're excited to announce the Maryland 3,000 adoption challenge is back this August! Participating shelters across the state of Maryland are teaming up to find homes for 3,000 shelter animals looking for a loving home. Adoption fees are WAIVED for the entire month. Whether you're ready to adopt or just want to spread the word, you can make a big impact.

Together, let's make The Maryland 3,000 Adoption Challenge bigger and better than ever! Make sure to check your participating shelter's adoption package to see what it includes. For BARCS shelter animals, adoption fees are waived and all adopted animals will be vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered, and ready to find a new home.

To make it even better, if you’re in the Baltimore area, join us for a special kickoff weekend adoption event at THE AVENUE at White Marsh! ***Awareness Post***

We've had two requests to search for dogs recently. Sadly they've drowned and at this time of year they have resurfaced before we could get there, leaving their owners with a traumatic task of recovering them.

There are a number of breeds that CANT SWIM or are POOR SWIMMERS. They can sink very quickly and with best efforts to save them it is often not possible.

You rarely get a second chance with water.

Your dog may never have shown an interest in water, or may just paddle. But dogs are instinct reactive and it only takes one accident.

Please don't take the risk. Please keep breeds that are known to be poor swimmers on a lead near water. At least then you have a chance of saving them.

Some of the breeds most known that can't swim/poor swimmers and most at risk are...

• French Bulldogs
• English Bulldogs
• Pocket Bully's
• Pugs
• Dachshunds
• Boxers
• Shih Tzu's
• Basset Hounds
• Corgi's
• Maltese

As an owner of a couple anxious dogs myself, I will share this every year.

Quick PSA: During the Fourth of July holiday, and the days leading it up to it when folks start celebrating with noisy fireworks, scores of pets run away from the sights and sounds, making the day after Independence Day the busiest of the year for animal hospitals and shelters. Please do your due diligence. And if you feel as though your pet may need medication to help them relax during firework season, now is the time to speak with your veterinarian!

On June 6, the Maryland Natural Resources Police said goodbye to K9 Badger.

He was the trusted, faithful partner and companion to Sgt. April Sharpeta. K9 Badger, nicknamed “Honey Badger” due to his sassy personality, came to the department in 2013. He began training in tracking and articles but after a session with Sgt.
Nyland’s dogs, K-9 Badger found that human remains detection (HRD) was what he was meant
to do.

Throughout his nine years of certified service, K9 Badger worked in almost every county in Maryland along with Delaware, West Virginia, and Washington DC. He supported NRP and assisted numerous local, state, and federal agencies on cases involving missing persons, homicides, suicides, and floods.

K9 Badger cleared thousands of acres of land searching for missing and deceased subjects and articles involved in those cases. He was always willing to work anytime and anywhere including cases on land, water, rubble, mud, ice, and snow.

When not working a case, K9 Badger enjoyed meeting kids and showing off his skills at public relations assignments.

In December of 2021, Badger was diagnosed with an inoperable adrenal tumor. K9 Badger leaves behind his handler, his loving family, and his NRP K9 team. He now joins Sgt. Sharpeta’s other canine, K9 Bear, at the Rainbow Bridge.

The Maryland Natural Resources Police is grateful for K9 Badger and his service to the agency and grieves his loss along with Sgt. Sharpeta.

This week has been rough. We are sad to announce that sweet Olaf has crossed the rainbow bridge. Olaf had made great progress over his swimming journey. He was always so excited to come. We even found out he enjoyed water guns so much. Rest easy sweet boy! Staff sends hugs and condolences to Olaf's family.

About us

Carsins Run Canine Swim Center officially opened May 1st 2018. Our swim center has a new look and some fresh updates. You may recognize some familiar faces as well.

The staff has 20 years of combined experience. Carsins Run Canine Swim Center will be here to help our canine friends. Water therapy is great for various conditions, weight loss/management, relief from arthritis, sore joints, building muscle, pre/post surgery, many conditions such as hip dysplasia, DM (Degenerative myelopathy), TPLO, ACL, spinal injuries/surgeries and many more. As always check with your vet and get clearance before swimming after or before any surgery. We also welcome canines who just want to have fun and play in the water.

Each client has their own appointment and swim time. No worry of other dogs in the pool at the same time. Our staff is there to help assess the condition of your pet and help build them to a comfortable level of exercise. Every canine friend is fitted for a life vest (you are also welcome to bring your own) and started slowly to build up endurance and performance. We have some water toys and you are welcome to bring your own as well (please make sure they float).

Just a reminder we only take CASH or CHECK and payment is due at time of service. We are an appointment only facility, so please call to set an appointment. All pets must be current on Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, if not please provide a note from your veterinarian. All pets must be on a leash coming and going from the facility.
