Hello, everybody!
Aberdeen Veterinary Clinic is taking donations of items such as blankets/towels, dry cat and dog food, canned foods, toys, etc. Abby is making her first drop off to two different locations tomorrow, but we would like to start doing drop offs at least monthly if we are able to receive enough donations! We are big on trying to help out other rescue centers who need extra help! If you would like to donate, starting next week you are able to bring donations by when we are open. Thank you all for your love and support!

Did you know that periodontal disease in pets can lead to some serious health complications? Left untreated, periodontal disease can cause your pet serious health problems, including:

- Swollen, bleeding gums โ€” Gingivitis causes inflammation to your petโ€™s gums, resulting in swelling and bleeding, which can be extremely uncomfortable.
- Loose and missing teeth โ€” When the toothโ€™s supporting structures are damaged, integrity is lost, the tooth loosens, and eating becomes painful for your pet. As damage progresses, the tooth can be lost, leaving an empty, sensitive socket.
- Chronic sinusitis โ€” If the bacteria invade the roof of your petโ€™s mouth, a communication between their oral and nasal cavities may result, causing chronic sinusitis.
- Tooth root abscess โ€” When bacteria attack the tooth root, abscessation can occur, typically resulting in a painful swelling and leaving your petโ€™s face looking malformed.
- Eye abnormalities โ€” Your petโ€™s tooth roots are close to their eyes, and inflammation in this area can lead to abnormalities, such as draining eyes, eye infections, and potentially blindness.
- Cancer โ€” Human studies link chronic periodontal disease to oral cancer, and an association is likely in pets.
- Organ damage โ€” Periodontal disease bacteria can enter your petโ€™s bloodstream, causing systemic infection and damaging organs, particularly the heart, kidneys, and liver.

When interpreting your dogโ€™s body language, itโ€™s important to pay attention to subtle cues as well as overt signals. For instance, a slight shift in weight or a barely visible change in ear position can be important indicators of your dogโ€™s emotional state. Learning to recognize these smaller cues can help you better understand your dogโ€™s needs and desires.

๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฑ It's important to be aware of which plants can be harmful to your furry friends.

๐Ÿ˜” Elephantโ€™s Ear, Begonia, Caladium, Dumb Cane, Philodendron, and Umbrella Tree are examples of plants that contain needle-shaped crystals called raphides, which can cause mouth and throat irritation, swelling, and difficulty swallowing.

๐Ÿ‘€ Other common garden plants that can be harmful to pets include Nightshades, Datura, Poppy, Oleander, and Foxglove.

๐Ÿšซ Protect your pets by preventing access to harmful plants and keeping them safe and healthy.
