Originally from Texas but now a solid South Dakotan, Savanna is our receptionist who greets you when you come in the door. She's also been known to help out with bathing, inventory and supplies, managing, and making sure the shop is sparkling clean.

When asked what she loves about working at The Dog Shop, her answer is simple: "Who doesn't want to go to 'work' and love on dogs all day! I'm so blessed."

Savanna loves working with The Dog Shop crew, and also loves to work with her mother-in-law Janet, who owns the shop. Life is busy, but spending time with family is built-in to her job. And every once in a while, little Finnley comes in to "supervise" and make sure everyone has their cute overload for the day, just in case the cute dogs weren't enough.

We're starting to see dogs come in with ticks, so it's time to remind you that as wonderful as the warm weather is...these pests come with it. Be sure to visit your veterinarian for flea and tick protection to avoid tick-borne diseases. And remember: we require your dog to be treated for fleas/ticks at least two days prior to their appointment. This is especially important for larger dogs that spend time outside. Otherwise, there may be additional fees.

Hannah has been a bather at the dog shop for nearly two years, and is currently in training to be a groomer. She loves autumn and Christmas, as well as hanging out with friends, playing video games, knitting, and of course, spending time with her dog.

One of her favorite things about working at The Dog Shop is getting to know each furry client better. "Over time, you can see their real personalities come out!"

Learning new techniques at the shop—like how to calm a nervous dog or get the perfect fluffy, clean look—makes her feel good at the end of the day.

While our philosophy of care is always humanity over vanity and we will remove mats due to the danger they pose to your pet's skin, if the coat is in good shape, we absolutely love to do a fun and fluffy cut! Cutie Kara wanted fluffy legs, and so we decided to let her start a retro trend.

When the boss is away...let's have a spa day! During the week of January 29 through February 2, we have appointment spots open for baths, blowouts, and nail trims.

We'll be filling up one day at a time. Appointments for bath drop-off times will be between 8 and 11 a.m. If you'd like to make an appointment, text 605-622-0364 and we'll get you on the schedule.

This is the time of year when fleas are coming indoors and getting onto your pets. Be extra vigilant about flea control, and talk to your veterinarian about options to help.

If your dog has fleas, please have them on treatment a week leading up to their appointment at the Dog Shop. We would ask that you do not bring in an animal that you know has fleas. If you're unsure, please let us know immediately at drop-off about your concerns.

We do treat and clean our facility regularly with flea-killing products, and if an animal is brought in with fleas we will charge you to use shampoo and a treatment to kill the fleas for that day. However, it's best to stay sharp and watch for fleas on animals or in sleeping areas for their own health and comfort.

It's a good problem to have, but makes it tough for your dog. But due to incredibly heavy appointment volume, we really encourage you to book your grooming and bathing appointments in advance. Even better? Set up the rest of your dog's appointments for the year, or be sure to set up the next grooming appointment when you pick up your pooch from the shop.
