This cat had sandburs stuck in its mouth causing excessive drooling! Luckily we were able to get the pet sedated and all of the stickers removed safely! You never know what you may find in a pet's mouth!

Meet Penny Blossom! This cutie came to see Dr. Crandall for her 1st puppy visit and like most, LOVED our cheese! We couldn't pick just one photo to share with you, so we decided to share them all!

What's Your Diagnosis!? 👂ANSWER:
These dark purple structures that look like foot prints are yeast! This dog has a yeast ear infection causing his clinical signs. Dogs have "L" shaped ear canals that make it easy for water to get trapped inside especially after baths and swimming. The ear canal is also a dark and moist environment that encourages yeast and bacteria to grow. Unlike humans, dogs get ear infections in front of the ear drum, not behind. If possible, placing cotton balls in the ears during bath time can help prevent excess water from entering the ear canal, just don't forget to take them out! Recurrent ear infections are likely the cause of a more serious issue like underlying allergies. It is best to bring your pet in to get adequate treatment for ear infections to make sure we are treating the right pathogen and to get you pet relief quickly!

What’s Your Diagnosis!? ANSWER: This little guy is a demodex mite! Demodex mites cause intense itchiness, hair loss, and red skin. They live in the hair follicles of dogs and appear shaped like a cigar with 8 legs under the microscope. All dogs (and even a few humans) have a few of these mites on their skin. As long as the body’s immune system is functioning properly, these mites cause no harm. Demodecosis often occurs when a dog has an immature immune system, allowing the number of mites to increase rapidly. Adult dogs that have the disease typically have weakened immune systems. Demodex is not contagious to other dogs or humans unless they have a compromised immune system. Demodex is diagnosed with a skin scrape and is most commonly treated with a monthly flea/tick preventative. #aahpaks #demodex

It’s Wiggles Wednesday! 🖤🐾 We recently noticed that Wiggles was starting to hesitate when jumping up onto the counters, easing his way down off of them to reduce impact, and even missing the counters as he was trying jump from one to another. These are very subtle signs, but all are signs of feline arthritis. We started giving him a once a month injection called Solensia to help combat osteoarthritis pain and discomfort. Here he a few weeks after his injection playing, jumping, and acting pain free again! If your cat is experiencing any of these symptoms they too could be suffering from arthritis.
