This dog’s chronic vomiting is due to a foreign body! However we have no idea what this is! The pet’s owner thought a piece from an air fryer that had been gone likely 9-12 months! Regardless, this wasn’t coming out on its own so a gastrotomy was performed to go in and remove it!

Check out 👀 this before and after of a dental cleaning! 🦷 We typically don’t show these photos because if dental disease is present removing the plaque build up helps some, but doesn’t take care of the problem. It’s similar to if your car has engine troubles, but you take it to the car wash! Yes, it looks nice and shiny, but the engine still isn’t working properly. This is where dental x-rays 🩻 play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of dental disease!

Fleas, Ticks, and Heartworms, OH MY! 😱

September is the peak season for ticks in most states! We are also seeing a large number of patients with flea infestations.
The photo seen here is hair clippings from a patient infested with fleas and flea dirt.
It is important to continue your monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention all year round on your pets to keep them as happy and healthy as possible (and prevent your home from becoming infested with these little guys 😉).

This is an X-ray of a caprine aka goat! The large “stomach” is actually the rumen! The rumen is on the animal’s left side and in goats can hold 1-2 gallons! The rumen is a large fermentation vat responsible for housing organisms that break down the fiber in the diet. 🩻

Congratulations to our August Employee of the Month, AJ! 🌟
AJ helps anyone that needs help and is a great asset to AAH. She works very hard to keep both the swine team and our laboratory organized and running efficiently. Her willingness to help others in any form is greatly appreciated, whether it be personally or professionally. AJ is a wonderful behind the scenes player who is always making sure our I's are dotted and our T's are crossed. She keeps us between the lines and out of the ditches. AJ has the personality that she would give you the shirt off her back if needed. This place would be completely lost without her!
Thanks for all you do for AAH AJ!
Help us congratulate AJ in the comments below!

What’s Your Diagnosis!? 👁️ ANSWER: This kitten has feline eosinophilic keratitis (FEK)! This is a chronic disease in cats that is characterized by eosinophils, which are a type of white blood cell, invading into the cornea. While the exact cause of this condition isn’t known, it is thought that the feline herpes virus plays a role. Pink, white, or tan raised plaques are the classic lesion seen with FEK. Treatment is topical steroids, but often cats need them throughout their entire life to keep symptoms at bay. Severe cases can cause the entire cornea to be affected.

It’s Wiggles Wednesday! 🖤🐾 We recently noticed that Wiggles was starting to hesitate when jumping up onto the counters, easing his way down off of them to reduce impact, and even missing the counters as he was trying jump from one to another. These are very subtle signs, but all are signs of feline arthritis. We started giving him a once a month injection called Solensia to help combat osteoarthritis pain and discomfort. Here he a few weeks after his injection playing, jumping, and acting pain free again! If your cat is experiencing any of these symptoms they too could be suffering from arthritis. Talk to your veterinarian today about how to keep your cat comfortable!
