Last month, I spent a week and a half tending to my client’s newly landscaped and wildlife-certified backyard while she and her family travelled to Alaska. I always get to experience something new during my work trips here and this time was no different. Here are some of the highlights:
👩🏻🌾: Daisy, one of the sweetest pitbulls, is now in her old lady era and loves to sleep in untill noon. I actually had to call her for breakfast everyday.
👩🏻🌾: I learned about the Armenian cucumber and harvested the biggest cucumber I had ever seen! Cut down to pieces and seasoned with some soy sauce, it sustained my snacking habit for 3-4 days. This was after I solicited Tripp’s help and gave him half. I harvested more during my stay and also gave those away to ensure they don’t go to waste.
👩🏻🌾: I learned about ground cherries and unlocked a new favorite fruit of mine! The flavor, to me, has hints of pineapple and persimmon. Each day brought plenty of these fruits.
👩🏻🌾: I learned how to harvest seeds and how to determine which ones are viable. Can’t wait to put them into action next season!
👩🏻🌾: The tadpoles from the frog pond were in the middle of transitioning into tiny baby froggies during my stay. I was able to witness and photograph part of that process.
👩🏻🌾: One of my usual duties is to mix the nectar and refill the hummingbird feeders. Because there are a good amount of feeders, I usually see a lot of hummingbirds throughout the day. This time, I tried my hand and was able to successfully photograph a couple.
👩🏻🌾: I got to observe and photograph so many other creatures like bees, praying mantis, butterflies, dragonflies, and a variety of birds.
👩🏻🌾: Ozzy the Bearded Dragon and I have grown a bit closer. He seems to enjoy when I tong-feed him a couple of worms and when I sing to him. I also discovered that he might even like K-R&B. He seems to be curious every time I played it while feeding him, but that’s something I will have to keep monitoring as bearded dragons are pretty sensitive to noises.
