Today, it begins — NANOWRIMO!
National Novel Writing Month! The goal is to write 1667 words daily in November, and you’ll emerge with 50,000 words, enough for a novel! Don’t stress and take each day as it comes; sometimes you write more, sometimes less. Showing up daily is a challenge, but you’ll reap great rewards!
Do you say, “Break a lead!” when wishing a writer good luck this month? 🤔
I’ll bet there’s a writer inside you. Types of word collections matter not! You can write a collection of short stories, intermingle poetry, or even write a screenplay (btw there is also a National Screenplay Writing Month each April—it’s called ScriptFrenzy!) Enjoy the process and keep your eyes on the prize with just one goal—50,000 words! You can do it!
You can do it solo, with friends, or in groups to support each other. There are meetups in just about every city! Oh, and did I mention you don’t have to share a word of it with anyone? Could be fun, tho, but don’t let that keep you from writing!
There are more bennies than just exercising your muscle memory and creating a good habit of showing up every day; you’ll get tips for when you can’t seem to get the words out, plus a variety of workshops hosted by helpful pros!
The website has a shop, too, for the swag, and you get good deals on novel writing software. 30-60 day trial periods to get you in the groove!
This month, I am using Dabble to write my novel. Their newbie-friendly interface lets me start immediately with almost no learning curve! It’s a great program with super support people! I recommend it! 👍
Scrivener is the souped-up hot rod of writing programs, but as a newcomer, it was like learning Photoshop in a weekend: I got lost in all the layers! But this is worth knowing when you aren’t on the clock for 50,000 words! It is a terrific tool for the professional writer! Scrivener is a sponsor of NaNoWriMo, and the product is high-octane (Where are these car talk refs coming from? Hehe)
Visit Nanowrimo.org or follow for more information and to join the fun! Have a great month!
Ps. .petrakos, I still have this mug you gave me 11 years ago! I miss you! Coffee is hot—I have to go write!
