Busy weekend of summer prep - pastures mowed, closed motor fans put up in stalls, more winter blankets washed, and other miscellaneous prep work. This guy hung out for a bit while I mowed a back pasture.
Addie and I had a great time at a clinic this weekend learning about overcoming fear with your horse. We saw road flares, smoke bombs and other "scary things," but this was by far the scariest for all the horses. I think we need to get some of these machines for the barn. :)
I'm terrible at getting photos, but we always love when Heather Walters comes for a visit! Miss Addie has had a lot of the winter off (I'd love to say it was solely to let her mature more, but there was a lack of desire on my part to be cold as well), but she picked back up where we left off. I am motivated to get in a regular schedule with her!
When you're well over 30, you have to get all the itches out on a nice day.
Volume up to enjoy the sounds this happy boy makes after a good roll on this sunny morning. A few more videos are in the comments.
Our two oldest residents playing around this morning. These esteemed gents are very close to or over 3 decades each.
How do you like to cool down after a ride? Guinny likes to play with the ball. His rider is not steering him except to keep.him from getting stuck in a corner.
Summer means it's time to play ball!
Special thanks to Marcus Mueller for some drone footage of the farm.
Finally nice enough to take sheets off. It's nice to have a friend to scratch the spots you can't reach during shedding season, even if you are a stallion.
We lost Grandpa Baird, the farm namesake, a few years ago, but his mare Ebony is 28 and still with us. She is semi-retired, but we dust her off every now and again to take the youngsters for a spin, which she loves.
We may not enjoy the blustery weather, but the girls enjoyed getting out to stretch their legs for a few hours.
She's old and kind of ugly, but this beast has served us well as we work to install waterers, drain tiles and more (and She's helped a few others out too!). She'll be for sale later this fall or next spring.
Now THIS is real country music 🎶🎵
When you just have to pay it forward.
When you "ring the dinner bell."
Today some of the Bairdcroft ponies (Billie and Marshall) headed out for an IEA event. Can you find them in the warmup pen?
