For those who have not heard, our amazing KP - Practice Manager, Licensed Vet Tech and all-around bad ass, experienced the devastating loss of her home this week to fire. A Go Fund Me has been set up to help her and her family through this difficult time. If you would like to contribute, the link is below. Financial contributions are most helpful at this time, as they work through the logistics of what they need to replace and where they will be able to keep it.

Another warm welcome, this time for Dr. Ali Schubert! She grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina where she got an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and attended vet school at NC State. After completing an ambulatory internship split between Georgia and Minnesota, she decided she liked the Midwest and came here! Dr. Ali grew up at a as a barn rat at a lesson barn and has a soft spot for lesson ponies, especially the grumpy ones. She’s also spent time doing research for regenerative medicine in an equine sports medicine lab. Her professional interests are lameness and emergency medicine, and she loves the variety of life as a mobile vet! In her free time she hangs out with her dog, Oakley (who you might see if you peek in the back of her truck), and can often be found in the gym or reading a good book.

Welcome to the team! Dr. Alyssa Pearson has lived in several different states, but spent her childhood in Mishawaka, Indiana and considers the Midwest home. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from the University of California, San Diego. Immediately afterward, she attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. Although she did not grow up with horses, during vet school she became fascinated by and passionate about equine medicine. Dr. Alyssa is excited to be starting her career as an equine vet here at Classic Equine! Her professional interests include reproductive medicine, internal medicine, and preventative care, including care for the aging horse. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two cats, Rochester and Gatsby, birdwatching, reading, and exploring Grand Rapids.

It's that time of year! Plan ahead and schedule your spring vaccine and Coggins appointment now. If we have not drawn a Coggins on your horse before, help ensure your paperwork is on time and correct by having your horse's registered name (if needed for showing) date of birth and breed ready. We will also need to take photos of your horse, so have them clean and ready to go.

Classic Equine is excited to offer the most effective and clinically proven extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) available. Through an electrohydraulic system that generates sound waves (impulses) that travel deep into the tissues of the horse, the Pulsevet shockwave has been shown in repeatable studies to quickly reduce pain and inflammation as well as stimulate faster healing of damaged tendons, ligaments, and even bone. This gives us an effective, alternative natural treatment option for our equine companions. It is capable of treating conditions over 100mm deep which enables it to effectively treat most causes of pain in the neck and back regions as well as suspensory ligaments, hocks, and tendons. Below are a few key points of recent studies involving ESWT.
Horses with suspensory ligament injury are 3.8x more likely to be back to work in one year when treated with ESWT.
Kissing spine and back arthritis- 83% of horses had decreased pain with ESWT.
Suspensory ligament and flexor tendon tears are healed faster with ESWT.
ESWT decreases pain and lameness associated with arthritis in the limbs.
ESWT improves soundness with navicular horses.
