Registration for our 2026 Master Gardener Class will open January 5th!!
What is the Master Gardener program? The Oklahoma Master Gardener program has become a popular volunteer activity that gives its participants a sense of community spirit, accomplishment and intellectual stimulation through collaboration, service, and stewardship. It is as much about giving people the chance to grow as it is about growing plants and enhancing local landscapes. Participants in this OSU Extension program undergo in-depth classroom training coordinated by local Extension staff with the assistance of state specialists. After their training is completed, the participants engage with Oklahoma gardening enthusiasts in activities and services coordinated through local OSU Extension offices and centers. The Master Gardener program is 10 – week course where you would receive training in:
• Soil & Plant Nutrition
• Entomology/Pathology
• Gardening
• Insect, Disease & W**d Control
• Annuals, Perennials & Woody Ornamentals
• Lawn Care, Turf grasses
• Pesticide Usage & Safety
• Pecan & Vegetable Production
• Soil Improvement

The program is designed for anyone with a High School diploma or equivalent with a genuine interest in horticulture that would enjoy sharing their research-based information with others. Those interested in learning the latest OSU horticulture research results, techniques, and practices. Anyone who enjoys fellowship with other gardeners and horticulturists.
You Will Receive:
• Educational class time
• Educational materials
• Knowledge to last a lifetime
• Connections with your community
Volunteers in Extension
Volunteer groups are one of the most important and unique aspects of the OCES. This is in keeping with the Extension philosophy that active citizen participation in planning and implementation ensures program success. As an MG, you will join this family of volunteers.
The “Oklahoma Master Gardener” title is to be used only and exclusively when doing unpaid volunteer educational work in the OCES MG Program; in which trained and certified MG’s assist the horticulture program. Oklahoma MG’s are not to advertise their names or place of business, nor to be listed on the advertisements of business places as a MG. This is an OCES public service program.
Certified Master Gardener Volunteer Requirements:
• A minimum of 40 hours of assistance to your local OSU Extension Horticulture Program in first year by:
o Assisting the horticulture program
o Helping conduct horticulture educational activities and programs.
o Community Service Projects
• There are many fun ways to serve —including assisting at the county fair, education workshops or booths, serving with parks or beautification projects, and youth garden programs.
