As an owner of a couple anxious dogs myself, I will share this every year.

Quick PSA: During the Fourth of July holiday, and the days leading it up to it when folks start celebrating with noisy fireworks, scores of pets run away from the sights and sounds, making the day after Independence Day the busiest of the year for animal hospitals and shelters. Please do your due diligence. And if you feel as though your pet may need medication to help them relax during firework season, now is the time to speak with your veterinarian!

Pets and the Solar Eclipse - What to know for next weeks Solar Eclipse on April 8th.

First, your pets are not going to lose their eyesight and will not need goggles or sunglasses next week. Animals know instinctually know not to stare at the sun. So DO NOT force your pets to stare at the sun or eclipse.

Some tips for April 8th.

1. Leave your pets indoors during the eclipse, but this is not due to the eclipse itself, although the phenomenon may cause them stress with the change in daylight. The entire event may simply cause them unnecessary stress.

2. Keep your pets away from large crowds or viewing crowds. People get excited and this may cause unnecessary stress to your pet and trigger their fight or flight instinct and cause them to run off if not controlled properly.

3. Keep their routines during this time, especially for cats as cats appreciate having a normal routine that they can rely on. Dogs follow cues from their owners and like their people to remain as normal as possible.

4. Turn down the shades and leave the television on to help them feel safer during this day, especially if you live near viewing events.

Outside of that do not expect your pets to do anything unusual such as running in circles, congregating and teaming up to worship the falling sky, or anything else unusual. Just be mindful of their normal routines.

This is Chloe 🐾 She is one of our most special clients because despite those big beautiful ears, Chloe is deaf.
It has been an adjustment and so much learning has happened since having her stay with us. We all learned a few bits of sign language and when calling for her only realizing we were talking to ourselves 😆🫶
