This sweet girl is Hershey. She's here for a week to work on leash skills, as well as overall confidence building. She's a pretty anxious girl so we're going to work at her pace & begin to help her learn that she doesn't need to lead & navigate this crazy world on her own.

Warm welcome to Keeloh! He's here for our 2 week b+t program. Main goals: recall & learn a more enjoyable way to walk on leash. This boy is ❗STRONG❗ and definitely uses that to his advantage! He is also the absolute sweetest lug 🥰. Follow along to see this pup learn some new ways.

Hello Sully! This 11 mo old pit mix is here for the next week to take his training a bit further with the e-collar. His amazing owners have done a lot of work with this guy - lucky dog!
I'm going to spend the week introducing him to the e-collar and layering it over commands he already knows. He's got a couple pesky behaviors that we'll also start working on correcting (jumping up and barreling into people out of excitement - way too big for that stuff!)
At the end of the week, the training continues! I'll be meeting his owners out and about to practice working through real life scenarios so they can be comfortable continuing with his training.
Follow along on this handsome guy's journey!

Heartbreaker Holly arrived yesterday to start her b+t program. This petite, 6 month old golden is here to jumpstart her training & learn there's a time to be crazy & a time to turn it off. Common issues we will be addressing are...jumping up, counter surfing, craziness in the car & keeping our cool when we see other dogs on the walk.
Follow along to see Holly's progress 🐾

The stunning 8 month old Apollo arrived yesterday to kick off his board + train program. This guy is here to kickstart his learning so he can be a fantastic family dog. He lives on 25 acres so a reliable recall will really open up his world! He also has the ability to go to work with his person so we're going to get that place command solid so he can stay out of mischief and learn to chill while things go on around him. Let's get to work! 🐾

Hello Redding! Red is an 8 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback here for our b+t program. This handsome lug has shown his owners that he is not yet ready for all the freedom in the home (most dogs this age aren't!) by chewing on inappropriate items, counter-surfing and jumping on people.

His awesome owners have already crate trained him, make sure his exercise needs are met and have him walking really great on a loose leash! We are going to build upon those skills and really work on creating some boundaries within the home. Stay tuned!

2 new training arrivals to introduce!

Stitch is a . This adorable guy is here to learn his basic obedience but more importantly, to help him feel better about the world around him. He can be a nervous guy & is quick to sound the alarm when he thinks there is concern. His leash reactivity makes it difficult to take him on walks, as he's so focused on everything but his handler.

Gracie, the cream colored is joining us to solidify her obedience commands, as well as get a confidence boost! She's a submissive lady who is such a pleaser... with a dash of defiance 😉 She's the queen of pancaking to object to things she might not want to do. Slow & steady for this gal!

Follow along to see their progress & take away some tips that might help with your own dog!

Welcome Bailey, the adorably spunky, wire haired JRT. This guy is 6 months old & is here to learn all his basic commands, as well as how to be a great family dog. He's developing some not-so-great habits to get his needs met (ankle nipping and mouthy behavior) so we are going to show him another way.

Follow along to see Bailey's progress! 🐾

Welcome Phoebe! How cute is this girl?! 😍

Her people have done a great job laying the foundation for us to build upon. Their main goal? Off leash accountability so she can enjoy all the hikes with her family!

Can't wait to help them accomplish this goal with ecollar training! Get ready, sweet girl - your world is about to get a lot bigger! 🐾

There are some amazing things to see in this country. 🏔️ Rocky Mountain National Park did not disappoint!
We leave Fort Collins today & head to Wyoming. While we won't be in Yellowstone, Steve & I will still be on the lookout for Beth & Rip. 😉. 📷: .flook

Front page of The Wall Street Journal today.

Not one mention of training, appropriately exercising or utilizing a kennel to help the dogs. Drugs & food. More stimulation instead of helping a dog learn how to settle. Quick fixes & bandaids.

*I have no problem playing music or giving your dog a Kong (I love them, actually) but these things don't solve the core issue. These things alone aren't going to help your dog feel better in their own skin.

If your dog is making poor choices with the freedom they have in your home, have them drag a leash so you can quickly RESTRICT access to certain things & GUIDE away from unwanted behaviors such as… ⬇️
jumping on furniture, barging out an open door, barking out the window, jumping on guests, jumping on you, playing too rough with other dogs in the home, chasing the cat, counter surfing, mouthing kids and so on. You get it, right?

The leash is directional so after you interrupt a behavior you don’t want - LEAD them away and SHOW them what to do instead like…⬇️
chill out on a dog bed (use that leash as a tie back), lay down beside me and chew on this stuffed kong (sit or step on the leash), follow me outside to go potty, look to me before barging out the door, etc.

Interrupting & correcting your dog is the first step. Showing them what to do instead is the next. The leash can help with that! Does your pup drag a leash in the home?

We (dog owners) get to a point where we realize we need to train our dog.  But the piece that many people miss is that you’ve already been training all along.  You just may not like what you’ve taught him.

All day we have opportunities to agree or disagree with our dog’s choices and their behavior.  We have moments to shape, capture and reward things we’d like to see more of. And moments to correct, redirect and show them what to do instead.  Instead of looking at training your dog as something you spend 10 minutes on a day, take a look at your whole day with your pup.  What are you allowing outside of that 10 minute session?

And remember, perfection isn't the goal. (thank goodness 😅) The real goal is to start to be mindful of how you interact with your dog & how it impacts their behavior - for better or worse.

If your dog can handle a greeting from a polite stranger & it's something you enjoy doing, more power to ya!

If you are currently working on your dog's behavior - specifically holding a command with a nice, calm mind - chances are meeting someone is going to throw your dog off-kilter. And the worst part... Your dog is now being rewarded for the behaviors you don't want.

Help your dog be successful by advocating for their space if he's not ready for this yet. (Or you simply don't want this type of interaction). There are lots of people who love to have their dogs greeted - that stranger will find someone else, don't worry. 😉
