Piggybacking off of yesterday’s post regarding weight challenges in our pets, Clawdia has some ways you can encourage exercise for your pet in the New Year! And, yes, cats can exercise too!
Examples for cat exercise include:
• Laser pointers
• Battery operated toys
• Catios with towers or harness/leash training your cat to walk outdoors
• There are cat apps that can be downloaded to help motivate your cat to exercise
• Teach your cat a trick
• Vertical towers indoors for climbing
• Timing and routine are essential for cats so try to identify when your cat is most active so that he or she will be willing to exercise
• Setting up a scavenger hunt with their food
• If you have a sociable cat and know of another sociable cat and they both get along, set up play dates
• Kitty catnip piñata
• An empty box for kitty to roll around in
• Puzzle feeders and change them up
• Build an indoor kitty recreation center or agility course
• Cat wheel (like the hamster wheel)
• Keep plenty of kitty toys around
• Bird feeders, aquariums and sun catchers
• Bubbles
Tips to increase exercise in dogs:
• Swimming
• Agility work
• Frisbee/catch
• Dancing with your dog
• Scavenger hunting or other nose work
• Stair climbing
• Hide and Seek
• If your dogs is sociable with other dogs, play days with other like sociable dogs
• Indoor pet centers
• Laser pointers

Redemption!
Dr. Holland's dog didn't want to wait for redemption from his big "miss" on the 1st. Good dog, Yaz!
Side note, she has trained him to come sit for a treat when the UPS guy comes down the street as a great way to decrease his barking at the window! It works sometimes! 😉

It's the 1st, treat your pet!
Don't miss! It's the 1st!
Just a friendly reminder that we see the most fleas of the year as we head into the winter season. Regardless of the time your pet spends outside, pests can definitely find a way in. We also just had a tick sighting as well!
Prevention is your best protection against the disease and hassle of parasites! Reach out today if you have questions about protecting your pet!
We'll see if Yastrzemski (Dr. Holland's dog) has a better catch next month. 😜😉

We love cats!
We love cats! 😻
It's our mission is to highlight the importance of annual physical exams for all pets, especially cats! We know this is often on the habitual "to do" list we all have, but we want you to know how important it is! You are never too late to come in for an exam!
Often we see patients as kittens and then nothing until they are ill with conditions of older age, many that have good treatment options if caught early. Let us help your cat thrive!
Check out this short video discussing the topic and then explore what we do to help make your visits more comfortable at https://adelvet.com/fear-free/
