Going back to the basics when the horse is demonstrating too much resistance to the rider. Ground driving can be an excellent way to create confidence when asking for collection and submission. Driving takes practice. We recommend starting in a round pen in case you drop a line or your horse becomes accidentally entangled. You should already be confident lunging your horse on a single lunge line. Your hands should hold the lines gently, as if they are reins, taking care not to pull on the horse and trapping them into the frame. Allow your horse to go forward into the contact and settle into a rhythm. Use voice commands for upward and downward transitions. This exercise should be down for a maximum of 15 minutes.
