The SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal welfare is an animal shelter and adoption facility offering affordable spay & neuter services and vaccinations.

Established in 1935, the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare is a private, non-profit organization operating under IRS Section 501c3. We have been placing thousands of needy animals into loving forever homes for over 80 years. MISSION
We strive to improve the lives of companion animals by rehoming abused, abandoned, and neglected pets while fighting for their well-being through vigorous legis

lative effort, humane education, and by offering affordable veterinary care for all. VISION
We envision a world in which every animal has a safe and loving home, access to quality veterinary care, and where the unfailing love and devotion of a companion animal is valued by all. We depend upon local donations to support our efforts to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats in our community and receive no regular funding from state or federal agencies, or from the ASPCA (a completely separate entity). Our success is due to the efforts of dedicated SPCA Albrecht Center employees and volunteers, leadership and support from our Board of Directors, as well as the generous donations and continued support of our community.

When Holly first came to us in 2018, we never could have guessed how much this strong, sweet dog would come to mean to us. We've watched her tan fur turn to white, from one shelter to the next, from home to home and back. She’s now 9 years old, and after the unexpected passing of her person, she is back with us searching for yet another chance at love.

Holly is as loyal as they come! She enjoys the simple things in life like lounging in cozy beds, soaking up sunshine, and playing with her favorite toys. Though she would prefer a home without cats, she’s open to meeting new canine friends with a proper introduction.

Holly has been a beloved friend to us, and we’re determined to find her the peace, comfort, and love she so deserves. She’s ready for her next chapter, a forever home where she can settle in and enjoy her golden years. If you have room in your heart for Holly, come meet her and let her be the best friend you didn’t know you were missing.🐾💛

Meet Lamour, a two-year-old mixed breed who’s equal parts energy and charm! Charlie is back with us, and now at two years old, he's looking for a fresh start🐾

This sweet mixed-breed guy still enjoys his walks, is housebroken, and has a mellow vibe perfect for lounging around. He’s happy to have his fur brushed and is always up for some belly rubs. Charlie’s easygoing nature makes him a great fit for most homes.

⭐️BIG THANKS⭐️ to Volunteers Maryann Wennemer, Susan Birt and Susan's coworkers of Union Agener! This hardworking team spent all day at she Shelter on Friday installing this gazebo in our enclosed dog exercise area so our dogs and staff have shade and shelter when using the space. The gazebo was generously donated by volunteers and built by this volunteer team. We are so grateful for this amazing gesture! 💕🐾

AND one of the Union Agener employees adopted Tyson while he was here! 🙌

Say hello to Dimples, our three-year-old heartthrob who got his name from that adorable smile! 😄 Despite coming to us with a scar on his face, Dimples has made an incredible recovery and is working hard to become the best dog a person could ask for.

Dimples is not only sweet but super smart—he already knows how to sit and heel, and has proven to be housebroken even in the shelter. 🚶‍♂️ He’s easygoing on a leash and would fit perfectly into any living situation. He’s cool with other dogs and cats, but would also be perfectly happy as your one-and-only furry companion.

Empty the Shelters by BISSELL Pet Foundation and Cathy Bissell continues, and we want you to meet Fenrir!🐾What better way to get to know her than straight from her foster’s mouth?

“Fenrir responds to Freya because she’s a girl 😌 She’s super smart! She watches her foster sibling Hemingway and thinks, ‘Oh, I get it!’ 🐶 She’s sitting nicely, working on laying down. She’s still not too vocal about asking to go out but tries, and sometimes I just didn’t understand! She thinks hands are for petting—especially if you’re sitting on the couch. ‘You can hold me and scratch right?’ she says… and if you move to where she doesn’t want you to scratch, she’ll take your hand in her mouth and move it to where she does 😂 She’s a little enthusiastic about her opinion but is learning what ‘No more!’ means.”

What a week it has been! After enduring 7 days without power post-Hurricane Helene, we’re so happy to finally be back to normal.

We couldn’t have made it through without the incredible generosity of our community. From food and treats for our pets, generators, and a battery-powered air pump for our fish tank, your donations helped us care for our animals in the toughest of conditions. And let’s not forget the many locals who donated snacks and full meals to keep our staff and volunteers going while they worked tirelessly in the dark!

Even more inspiring, 150 of our shelter pets were welcomed into foster homes for temporary stays until power was restored. This outpouring of support showed us just how much our community is willing to step up for animals in need. We can’t thank you enough!

Now that the lights are back on, we’re excited to shift our focus to finding forever homes for these amazing pets during our Empty the Shelters adoption event, powered by BISSELL Pet Foundation and Cathy Bissell. Adoption fees are FREE (exclusions apply), making it the perfect time to bring home a new furry family member. Let’s keep this momentum going and help us truly empty the shelter💚🐾

‼️ Update on Fancy Pants ‼️ Earlier this month, we asked for your help to cover the costs of treatment for Fancy Pants, a 3 month old puppy that came into our shelter with severe injuries. We are happy to say that Fancy Pants is doing amazing! She is currently in foster, and based on the pictures and videos we are receiving, she is having a blast! We are so grateful for every one that donated and shared her story. All of your support led to a successful recovery and a bright future for Fancy Pants!❤️
