Farewell in love . This dog, named Greta, had arrived at the last day of her life at the age of 15 years and ended with a serious illness. The owner took them to the place where they both were happiest together. Her favorite beach. In her last hour, he caressed her fur and gently talked to her, told about her adventures together and how much he loved her, he did not leave her alone until her last breath on this world. This is how loyalty goes to a beloved animal until the end. ❤

Back in April of 2021, I saw a post from our local Animal shelter, on a wonderful program called “Home to Home”, listing a 14 YEAR old Treeing Walker Coonhound that was needing a new home ASAP or he would be surrendered to the animal shelter.
My heart just broke for this old boy!
No one would want an old dog; he would probably never make it out of the shelter…
I called the owners and they legitimately needed to find him a home!
We went and met him; bumps, warts, growths and all!
We brought Zeb home with us and for about 4 months he just went through the motions of living….until one morning he gave me my first kiss! Now, he wants to be loved on, kissed, played with and spoiled! We LOVE this beautiful old soul!!!!
We love him one day at a time, as he is very old….but every day we thank God for bringing him into our lives!
So….don’t overlook the older dogs in the shelters that are up for adoption! They are a true blessing!

I have had many requests to make this post “shareable” so I am reposting here (feel free to share). It was originally written and posted in the Vizsla Puppies Facebook group but it can apply to any breed:

There are Reputable Breeders and there are PUPPY SELLERS. Plain and simple. Before purchasing a puppy it is important to know the difference.

PUPPY SELLERS: They don’t screen buyers, they don’t do any education or mentoring, they don’t support their puppy owners. They simply make puppies and sell puppies to anyone with the green. They may have a sleek website and look like breeders, but in reality they are not. Their dogs are rarely health tested and they may have “Breeding Pairs” that they breed over and over simply to make more puppies (and pad their wallets). They almost always have puppies, especially around Christmas. When puppy buyers run into problems these “puppy sellers” will not be there to help the owners or take the puppies back. Basically, once you’ve paid, it’s your problem. Once the mama dog has been used up, she may or may not be dumped at a shelter or sent to a rescue.

REPUTABLE BREEDERS: Carefully screen their buyers. This means people might be told “this is not an ideal breed for your family/situation”. It is always a judgement call a breeder must make given the information they gather. Families who are looking for “a great family dog” and they show up to meet the breeder with unruly, undisciplined children who receive no direction from their parents when they attempt to grab a dog’s tail would likely be told NO. Breeders don’t care that you have the money to buy the dog, they would rather keep their puppy than place it in an ill-fitting home. A breeder’s dogs will have health screens completed prior to breeding. There will likely be a lengthy wait-time (6 months to as much as 3 years) to get a puppy from a good breeder. They are not breeding as a business, in fact most of them work full time jobs, many do volunteer work for dog clubs and often they help with breed rescue too! Their dog breed (and their breeding program) is their life’s passion! They devote a great deal of time helping their current puppy owners and caring for their own dogs. They usually participate in dog sports (show, hunt, obedience, agility ...) So they may take longer than might be ideal to answer inquiries about puppies. They are worth the wait! The vast majority also keep their dogs even after they are no longer breeding them so you’ll see often see an old dog or two at their home in addition to young ones/puppies. The most important aspect that differentiates a breeder from a “puppy seller” is the lifetime of support they give their puppies’ new owners. if problems arise they will be there to help you through it and if ever necessary they will take their dogs back! That support is worth it’s weight in gold.

❌ PLEASE LET THEM BE ❌
The vast majority of these rawhide products and treats come from China.
Their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell.
Now comes the pretty festive colours and the glue to form cute shapes.
They regularly cause intestinal blockages and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog.
Please be safe with your dogs!

Talli-Ho and Teak!

Seven years ago, we were visiting our daughter, Kelli, in Lexington, KY. We went to a 4th of July festival and there was a couple there with the cutest, long eared, snuggly Vizsla puppies! We just fell in love! Our daughter and son-in-law got a puppy soon after that. We waited for almost a year before bringing Teak to our family! She fit right in and we soon were velcroed to her and her to us! We have horses, other dogs, a cat, some chickens and TEAK! She is unlike any dog we have ever owned! We love them all, but she is just, well....a VIZSLA! You have to own one to understand what I mean! So, for those of you that have one...Congrats! To those that are thinking of owning one....you won’t regret it, one bit! Enjoy our journey!
