Rainbow's Holiday Pies are growing up so fast! Today they had their first nap in a crate with the door closed. They all did very well!
We had a big play session before to tire them out, applied pheromone spray to their crate pads, and played calming music while they slept.

This is their first foray outside of the whelping box to work on curriculum so mama Rainbow is there to help guide them and show them that the world is safe (and that bouncy balls are really fun!)
Imprintign the “Puppy Puppy Puppy” Recall
We imprint all of our puppies with the lifesaving Badass Breeder “Puppy Puppy Puppy” Recall. This imprinting consists of calling “puppy puppy puppy” when we are feeding puppy mush.
At this highly impressionable age we are creating an extremely positive association with that call. This provides the new families with a lifesaving way to call their puppy if they slip out of their collar, or out of the house, or are otherwise in a potentially dangerous situation.
Since the puppy will have only positive associations with this phrase they come running expecting high value food or treats. We send all of our clients home with instructions on how to maintain this imprinting for the life of the dog.

Here is a peek at Pumpkin Pie’s daily curriculum ❤️
First he gets his weight and ribbon changed. We weigh each puppy daily to ensure that they are all gaining eight and thriving! Then I sneak in some snuggles because…well, how can you not?!?
Next is Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI). ENS is a set of 5 gentle handling exercises that introduce small stressors for 3-5 seconds each to puppies from 3-16 days of life. These exercises are tactile stimulation (between the toes), head held up, head held down, puppy on their back, and temperature change (setting them on a cool surface). These exercises help to improve cardiovascular and adrenal function, and the puppy’s ability to handle stress later in life.
Today’s scent introduction was Star Anise (a spice). ESI helps to promote nose awareness.
