World Waterfowl Day
Today is World Waterfowl Day! To celebrate, we’ll be posting all day about the importance of waterfowl to our natural world.
In this video, Keeper Vicky is giving our waterfowl residents their morning feed while explaining some of the different characteristics and roles of those residents.
Alpaca painting
We asked Noel his thoughts on the alpaca-themed painting for the next Wine and Paint on Friday, Jan. 17. He loved being the subject of the painting so much that he couldn't stop giving kisses!
Create your own version of Noel the alpaca at the instrctor-led class while enjoying a beverage (non-alcoholic drinks available). You'll also get to enjoy one of our animal ambassadors creating their own art masterpeice, and a special guest might make an appearance!

Java
Java the goat smells something really good and is showing off the flehman response! This response is often given when goats smell something enticing like urine from another goat.
Some other animals that also exhibit the flehmen response are tigers, giraffes, llamas and giant pandas, to name a few. The more you know!

Thank you for following along during our Twelve Days of Conservation! We look forward to hearing about your own conservation initiatives.
Ninth Day of Conservation
On the Ninth Day of Conservation...we're recycling and reusing materials! At the Akron Zoo, we reuse before buying new items whenever we can. We have a designated cabinet for rehoming unwanted office supplies and we reuse newspaper, plastic containers and lots of other materials for animal enrichment.
This glove box is being reused as a foraging box by our otters! It's a great form of enrichment that encourages them to rip and tear to get to their food.
