Fireworks are scary for pets!!

Tips to diminish your pet’s Fireworks frenzy...
1. Get plenty of exercise with your pet during the day to decrease any pent-up nerves/energy when the fireworks start.
2. Provide a safe space for your pet in a familiar and comfortable room inside. Play some Anti Anxiety Music for Dogs calming music, white noise, or the TV to help drown out the fireworks. Ensure all doors and windows are closed.
3. Distract with high-value treats and toys ➡️ try a Kong with frozen peanut butter to keep them busy and happy.
4. Consider an anti-anxiety wrap like the Thundershirt Calming Wrap to provide gentle pressure that helps decrease anxiety and stress for some pets.
5. Make sure your pet has proper identification - Check your pet’s identification tag for up-to-date contact information. Tip: If you don’t have time to order a tag with accurate information, you can always use a luggage tag to add your information and attach it to the collar.
6. Microchip your pet to help your local officials get your fur-baby back to you in the chance they do fearfully flee... Although microchips are not tracking devices, they do help lost pets be reunited with their parents. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date, and if your pet isn’t microchipped ➡️ Use your app to request a microchip appointment today!
7. Contact us if you’d like to discuss prescription sedatives and other options to help decrease the fireworks trauma for your furry friend.

🚨 June is National Pet Preparedness Month ⛑

As we’ve all experienced this year, disaster can happen out of nowhere and have an impact on not only our lives, but our pets as well. These situations are almost impossible to predict, but you can prepare for the unexpected by staying informed and creating a plan. Here are some tips to make sure you and your furry family are ready:

• Include your pets in your emergency plans. Typically what is best for you in an emergency is also what’s best for your pets. Whether you decide to stay or evacuate, plan for your pet’s needs and safety as well.
• Build a separate emergency kit for your pets. You can view Ready.gov’s checklist for items to pack.
• Make sure and keep digital records and/or pictures to identify your pet after a disaster in case you become separated. You can use our hospital app to access your pet’s vaccination records at all times. We also strongly recommend that you microchip your pet and keep their registration information up to date.
• Create a list of places that accept pets if an emergency happens. Use websites such as https://www.gopetfriendly.com/ to find pet friendly hotels and other facilities.

☀️ Summer Pet Care Tips
Keep your pet happy & healthy all season long!

Summer is a fun time for outdoor adventures, but rising temperatures can also pose some risks for our furry companions. At Weatherly Animal Hospital, we care deeply about your pet's health and comfort, so we’ve put together some quick tips to help you and your pet enjoy a safe, happy summer.

🐾 5 Essential Summer Pet Care Tips:

1. Hydration is key: Make sure your pet has access to clean, fresh water at all times, especially outdoors. Add a few ice cubes to their bowl for a fun way to cool down!
2. Watch out for hot surfaces: Pavement, sand, and asphalt can get scorching hot. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws. Walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening when surfaces are cooler.
3. Never leave pets in a parked car: Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a car can soar to deadly levels within minutes. When in doubt, leave them at home where it’s cool.
4. Beat the heat indoors: Ensure your pet has a cool, shady place to relax. Fans, AC, and pet-safe cooling mats can help them stay comfortable.
5. Flea, tick & heartworm prevention: Summer is peak season for parasites. Make sure your pet is protected with vet-approved preventives. Not sure what’s right for your pet? Don't hesitate to reach out to us for more information!

🐶 Bonus Tip: Planning a summer vacation? Let us know! We offer boarding and can help ensure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date for travel or stays with pet sitters.
If you have any questions, send us an app chat or give us a call!

Wishing you and your pet a fun and safe summer!

Memorial Day, the kick-off to summer for many of us and others the first of several outdoor activities. Whatever your plans are this holiday, don’t forget these safety tips to help keep your furry ones safe.

*No to the barbecue bones. Having a BBQ? Make sure to not give table scraps, especially bones, to your pets.

*Hiking or camping on the calendar? Don’t forget to pack a lot of water and have a suitable area for shade.

*Fireworks? This beautiful blast of fun and noise can scare our furry ones. Make sure you have their ID tags up to date and they are microchipped.

*Sunny Day? Unless you have sunscreen or insect repellent specifically made for animals, this can be toxic for pets. Watch for signs of drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst, or lethargy as this could be a sign of ingestion.

Lyme disease is an illness spread by ticks that affects both animals and humans. It is important to keep your pets on tick prevention, not only for their own well-being, but also to prevent ticks from hitchhiking into your home and onto your family.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Lyme Disease is the most commonly reported vector-borne illness in the United States. Typical symptoms can include fever, loss of appetite, lameness, joint swelling, and decreased activity.

To prevent Lyme disease:
*Be aware of your environment, and be mindful of where ticks like to hang out (wooded areas, mulch, tall grasses).
*Talk to your veterinarian about the best tick prevention for your pet
*Check your self & your pet when returning from outdoor adventures

If you need more tick preventative medication, remember that you can place an order request through our app, email us, or give us a call.
