Karen Pryor passed away a few days ago. If you do not know her name please take a minute to read about her, and even better pick up a copy of "Don't Shoot the Dog" or my favorite, "Lads Before the Wind". As a budding animal trainer I knew there was a better way, and I was aware of clicker training, but it was still looked down upon by those around me. I read these two books and was mind-blown. It completely changed my trajectory as a trainer and helped shape me to become the person I am today.

I only met Karen once. We shared an elevator at a conference years ago. I was starstruck and didn't manage to say anything meaningful, but it was still a highlight for me...

Thank you to everyone that came out to our annual "DogStar Holiday Festivities" party on Saturday! We had a great turnout and lots of fun, including crowning our "DogStar Games Champions" in our tunnel send game....

Congrats to Michelle Stagg for doing what was best for her dog. Josie is very social and can be easily distracted. Michelle was hoping to run her in Speedstakes at our November UKI trial. I suggested we pick part of the course to give them both the best chance for success, which in this case was a happy, confident dog. Mission accomplished!! I'm so proud of both of them!

Congrats to Dianne McFarlane and Ditti on kicking butt at their very first UKI US Open. They ended up on a podium (well, they missed their photo op and actually getting to stand on the podium ;-) but they still earned a 3rd place finish. Well done ladies!

Gia Arney and the amazing Pippa headed to Tucsan AZ for their first national event, USDAA Cynosport in mid-November. Pippa and Gia did some amazing stuff including a 2nd place in Team Jumpers and getting to run in their first national finals, Team Relay. The future is very bright for this team!
