Hi everyone,
Thank you to those that watched this segment on tv, for those that didn’t get to see it here it is.
Be sure to check out Jus Makes Scents made locally in Bay Farm.
That’s the “Yes, Right There” look from Buddy, nothing like a stress relieving shoulder rub done correctly
There is a lot more going on during bathing than you may think! no such thing as a simple bath here.
The total raised from the 10% additional charge for the Alameda Food Bank for January is $900.
Not bad considering the amount of rescheduling that the recent bad weather caused!
The $900 will give a buying power of $6,300!!!!
Well done everyone, Thank you!
Hi everyone,
What you are looking at is matted hair, one of 15 lumps of it taken off a 20lb dog, this was cut off but the rest of his coat was almost baked on.
I had no choice but to refer to a vet.
This dog will have to be put under and the coat removed surgically.
Not sure how the dog made it though the summer in this condition.
I have been very clear about matted hair for a long time and how dangerous it can be but I am still seeing it every day.
I have no choice but to run every appointment to a two hour maximum, l can’t afford to have dogs here all day but I am constantly held up running in to hours of a delay every day.
It’s not what this place is about! It’s one to one as much as possible in a relaxed environment for your dog, constantly dealing with matted hair and stressed dogs is very challenging and almost always causes an overlap to the following appointments not to mention the danger involved.
From today I am bringing my policy for matted hair forward from January.
Service is no longer available for heavily matted dogs with immediate effect.
I will do my best for those that for good reason can’t brush their dogs hair but if you can and don’t brush your dog regularly I would suggest making alternate arrangements for grooming, there are plenty of places not far from here that are only interested in money and will do whatever to get it whilst disregarding the wellbeing of your dogs.
Thank you so much to those that have already begun brushing their dogs, makes a really big difference to them and their time here.
Hi everyone,
I want to thank all of you that have been working with your dogs and getting them used to being brushed and brushing regularly.
It makes a really big difference to them when they are with me, they are far more relaxed and as a result can go home in good time.
It isn’t nice to see how stressed dogs can get when matted hair has to be removed, added to that the time it takes and how dangerous it is.
Appointments are set so there is only one dog at a time, overlaps can happen but generally only happen when I am delayed and it is almost always because of matted hair.
I know I’m like a broken record on matted hair but I will keep on about it, matted hair can be avoided with regular and correct brushing.
Again thank you to those that have taken brushing seriously and I’m sorry to say but thank you and best wishes to those that didn’t think it was that important.
If there is anything else you might like to see feel free to ask, I’m happy to help!
Hi everyone,
Ahead of what looks like a very hot weekend here are some tips to help your dogs over the coming days!
• If you can, walk your dogs in the morning! The pavement can get really hot. Dogs paw pads are very sensitive and can get burned easily.
• The pavements will still be hot until long after the sun goes down.
• If your dog needs to cool off try to avoid the waters around Alameda, there is a toxic algae bloom in the water and will most like cause an irritation.
• Baker Beach is probably the best spot for a dog swim, it’s water from the bay of course but it is diluted a little better from the open ocean.
• Be mindful of Fox Tails, they are causing a lot of problems for some dogs.
• To help keeping an eye out for them I would suggest taking a hair dryer and running it against your dogs paws for a few seconds.
• The air might not remove them but it will allow you to see if there are any that need to be taken out, one minute doing this could save you an awful lot of money.
• Putting your dogs favorite treats in some water and then making ice cubes is a great way to keep them entertained and hydrated.
Have a great weekend!
If you aren’t sure if brushing is getting matted hair out try using a comb!
A comb will help you identify areas that need work, some brushes will slide over matted hair without you realizing.
There’s no hiding from a comb.
Matted Hair #3
Please keep your dogs brushed! It’s very tough on them when it goes too far
Hi everyone,
Important updates!
Thank you
A peaceful start to a very busy Tuesday!
As it turned out I had some of my more excitable boys and girls in today.
After their bath, massage and hair cut they took naps and watched the world go by waiting to go home all while listening to some gentle music.
Seeing your pets calm and relaxed really makes my day an awful lot easier! no matter what is going on behind the scenes their comfort is my priority.
(P.s turn your sound on)
The Sutro String Quartet stopped by so I could check the acoustics.
After today your dogs will be further relaxed with some calming string music (via sound system) while they wait for pick up.
Highly recommended if you are having a party.
Hi,
Day break at Dun Laoghaire Pier, Dublin Ireland! Hard to find a better place for a some fresh air and a few minutes to gather your thoughts.
It was great to be home but after some pretty hard jet lag it’s back to work now.
Only a few Saturday morning bathing appointments left before Thanksgiving.
See you soon
As close as I get to a break these days!!!
There is something very relaxing about drying a big dog!
Far too big for the grooming table! It wouldn’t be safe to have this boy up there anyway.
Part time job has been posted on indeed, all are welcome to apply. No bathing or grooming will be expected of the person but whoever it is can learn if they want to.
No experience necessary! A polite and professional person who takes pride in their work and appearance would be a great fit.
Next available appointments are in the first week of July.
Thank you,
Nicholas.
