Let’s just start calling Amanda the elk whisperer 🤷🏻♀️ people in the area were shocked. Amanda heard a baby elk in distress, found it from across a mountainside, trekked over to it and found it had lost its herd / mom. Super scared and we think he thought he was stuck in a thorny bush because when she got close enough the baby bounced right out. Looking around, we saw the herd missing a baby down the cliff side, in a small clearing.
Amanda wanted to see if the baby would follow her and that led nowhere … literally. So using a dog leash, she basically lunged the elk back to the mom. (If you don’t know what that means, it’s making large circles with a rope, or … in this case a 6ft leash…by spinning it or using a circular motion in your hand.) She ran right or left to keep it moving the way it needed to go to get back to its herd. We wish we would have filmed that part. But this is the herd about a minute after the return of the calf to the herd. This lady… saving elk without a fear in the world.
Later we saw that the baby’s distress call, called a black bear in. That was actually and literally wild to be that close to a hungry bear. We immediately sat down on the mountain and the bear moseyed off at a slow bear pace down the mountain.
So, we waited a minute to go another way and found a skunk 🤣🤣 but it was just as surprised to see us as we were to see a skunk. So he or she ran off and disappeared into a bush.
We chose a third path down the mountain to avoid the skunk, and the bear. 😂😅 Luckily the 3rd time was the charm, and we made it back without incident 😂😂😂 made me wonder if a bear would still attack you if you had skunk spray on you 😆😆
