LOVE your pet this Valentine's Day: Keep chocolates out of reach!

A box of chocolates may be a traditional, romantic gift to give to a loved one on Valentine's day, but it's not a loving treat for your pet.

You may or may not be aware that chocolate (candy, chocolate chips, chocolate bars, truffles, baking chocolates, cocoa's, etc.) are potentially toxic to dogs, especially dark chocolate, since it has a higher cocoa content. You should also be especially careful if baking with bittersweet or baker's chocolate, since these contain the most theobromine, which is related to caffeine and is the chemical compound that causes the most problems for dogs.

If your dog ever eats chocolate or chocolate baked goods, please contact your veterinarian, local pet emergency and critical care center, or a pet poison hotline immediately.

They can help you determine whether your pet has ingested a toxic amount and the appropriate course of action to take.

To our valued clients and community,

With 2023 behind us, we are looking forward to the new year ahead. Many of you might be wondering about the changes in personnel that have occurred over the previous few weeks, and we apologize for any uncertainty we may have caused. Handling this type of change during the holidays has not been ideal, but overall, we believe these changes were necessary for the health and betterment of our practice and its future.

For those of you unaware, both Dr. Jasmine Flanagan and Dr. Sara Spangler are no longer providing veterinary services at Albany Animal Hospital, and their departures were based on separate circumstances.

In the business world there is a factor of confidentiality that is necessary during a time of separation between employee and employer. We have chosen to uphold that confidentiality and respect for those no longer employed here.

What we can share is that we are currently searching to fill two Associate DVM vacancies as soon as possible. During the interim, Dr. Ken Fletcher has resumed practice and he and our team are confidently meeting the current needs of our beloved patients, clients and community.

In addition to the personnel changes, Albany Animal Hospital will be adjusting its hours of business for the first time in many years. In order to accommodate our current team, as well as create a more efficient work-flow for patient and client services, our new hours are as follows beginning January 8, 2024:

>Monday 8am to 6pm
>Tuesday 8am to 6pm
>Wednesday 8am to 12pm (Product pick-ups and scheduling only. No DVM on site.)
>Thursday 8am to 6pm
>Friday 8am to 6pm
>Saturday/Sunday CLOSED
*We will be closed (doors locked) and phones turned to voicemail during our staff lunch hour of 12pm to 1pm on regular business days.

We understand that change and adapting to new circumstances can be difficult, but change is no longer a stranger. We appreciate with all sincerity, those of you who have entrusted your pets with us through the generations, who have stood by us through the growing pains, through Covid-19, to those who have recently found us, and to the community that we love to serve.
