Bucephalandra is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae. Bucephalandra are usually found growing as dense mats over stones or rocks in streams or rivers in moist tropical forest. Bucephalandra is derived from Greek words, βοῦς (bous; bull or cow), κεφαλή (kephalē; head) and ἀνήρ (anēr; man), referring to the shape of the single male (staminate) flowers.

Here are a few key highlights from our resident plant guru Hector:
Helanthium bolivianum 'Vesuvius' - AKA corkscrew sword. A most impressive vibrant green leaf cluster spiraling unto a most fine tipped blade. According to the brilliant Christel Kasselmann the name 'Vesuvius' having no connection to the volcano is a fantasy name and in my humble opinion a fitting one as this plant seems to be a gift from a fantastical world to our own. An element most adequate for the exploration of our deepest creative aquatic realms.
Hemianthus micranthemoides - AKA Pearlweed. The humble Pearlweed is by far among the most underrated aquatic plants. It is adaptable to many environments and can be trimmed into a carpet or left to grow wild into the jungle of your dreams or nightmares.
Hygrophlia pinnatifida - AKA Swampweed. Undergoing both a dramatic emersion to submersion physiological transformation and profound environmental adaptation, Swampweed seduces us with its subtle rust, purple, red and earthen blush and dominates our curiosity with its sharp sawtooth blades. It will drape over rocks with a grace fit for a queen meanwhile cascading from branches with the dramatic aggression of an assassin. Those that have the skills to manage an environment it can thrive in will be greatly rewarded by its unforgettable beauty.

Never knew they could “stick” to the under-water surface, the common snail, 🐌 acting more like an upside down waterbug. Albeit carried a bit by the Eheim stream, it carves its on direction!!!
