Training Session

Teaching Tuesday!! Monica and I have been having some training sessions with an up and coming local dog trainer, Zion Parks. I learned of Zion through a client. This particular client had an extremely fear aggressive dog who had been “released” from several other veterinary hospitals. After a few tumultuous visits at Gardner and Hydrick, I suggested this client reach out to a trainer. Through a series of events, or maybe even sheer luck, he met Zion. The difference Zion made in this client’s pet was remarkable. I would even dare to say it was a miracle. Seeing these results, I felt compelled to reach out to Zion and I am glad I did. Although I am a little biased, I feel Monica is extremely smart and trainable. She has always had great house manners, but I have trouble getting her to come back to me when we are in a stimulating environment. I know the problem is with me and the delivery of my commands, so having someone correct my behavior is helpful. With Zion's help and me consistently working on the training aids Zion has taught me, I am laying the foundation for a solid recall. Here is a little sampling of Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs performed by Ballet Theatre South. Get your tickets for the show on December 6,7,and 8 at the Albany Municipal Auditorium. Both of Dr. Haley’s girls will be performing!!

Since today is Frannie’s birthday, he took her class some hot, fresh Krispy Kreme donuts. To his surprise, they sang Happy Birthday to the both of them bc it’s both of their birthdays today!! HBD you two!!

With the help of the snuffle mat, this sweetie pie had a stress free veterinary visit today! It is the goal of the doctors and staff to help puppies have more pleasant appointments in order to reduce the stress, fear and anxiety associated with the veterinarian on future visits. Dr. Haley visited the Tallulah Massey library and read her favorite childhood book “The Best Nest,” by P.D. Eastman today. She said all the children were well behaved and great listeners.

We are just tap dancing through the week over here at Gardner and Hydrick. It’s almost Friday!!

Dr. Hydrick feeds the birds and Ash watches them!

This is our clinic cat, Ashe. He is lazy and loves to be brushed. Yes, he is overweight. Dr. Haley tells everyone “it is Martina’s fault Ashe is fat; she is loving him too much with food.” So when she lectures y’all about an overweight animal, you can’t say to her “well you have a fat cat!” 🤣

This video is Molly's 10 days post Librela injection. You must search for and watch the previous video I posted to appreciate her improvement. In this video she is able to leap right up on to the couch where as in the first video she did not even try. She would place her front feet up but made no effort to reach the top of the furniture. If you have an older pet who you have noticed is slowing down, struggling to navigate the steps or hardwood floors, or having a hard time rising to stand, it is time to talk to your veterinarian about the options for pain management. Librela is a new monthly injection that is changing the way we manage pain in our pets.

Poor, poor Molly. Watch her struggle and not succeed on reaching the top of the couch. Molly is an old girl, who is a little on the "heavy" side (we don't say the "f" word at Gardner & Hydrick Veterinary Clinic). She has arthritis of the hips and back and has a lot of anxiety associated with her pain from arthritis. This video is from October 30, the day she had her first Librela injection. Next I will post a video or her improvement. For some reason, FB will not let me post 2 videos together tonight. So be sure and look for her 10 days post injection video!!
