Diamondback Terrapins have one of the largest ranges of all turtles in North America. As you can see, they are very social turtles and are often observed basking together in the wild. Diamondback Terrapins are considered keystone species as they keep marsh snail populations at a healthy level.

Our 'Candy Cane Lane' Snappers and their fellow Gulf of Mexico exhibit mates received their Fishmas present today! Fish native to the Gulf of Mexico often have lots of different objects to swim around from the top of the water column all the way to the bottom. These various objects include fishing piers, oil rigs and even sunken ships! Our candy cane enrichment provides our fish an opportunity to explore multiple areas of their exhibit, just like they would in the wild!
Check back tomorrow to see which animal will be featured as the Countdown to Fishmas continues!
Our Aviary birds aren’t the only ones who can make some noise at Flint RiverQuarium! Fin the Elf gathered Santa and his fellow elves to provide our birds a special Fishmas caroling! And what better song to pay tribute to our 12 Days of Fishmas?! Our Aviary birds certainly enjoyed being serenaded about 12 different species of birds!
