Great reminder as calving is wrapping up and weโre sending pairs to grass! Also, donโt forget implanting suckling calves is a great option if your program allows for it. Consult our veterinarians today with any questions!
Some producers theorize the longer the calf is left intact the faster he will grow, which will result in more pounds to sell at weaning. A lot of the weight advantage with leaving the calf intact will be lost with the increased stress of cutting at a later age. Cutting calves at a larger age results in more bleeding, more stress on the calves and it takes longer for them to get back on full feed and resume normal activity.
