Cuteness overload! My sister and I got spayed on the same day. 🐇

Just a reminder that spaying your rabbit has many benefits! Rabbits are much less prone to destructive and aggressive behavior. In female rabbits, spaying reduces if not almost completely eliminates the risk of getting reproductive cancers, and rabbits are overall healthier and live longer.

Reach out to us at (505)494-5000 to get your rabbit friend examined and get a spay/neuter scheduled! 🐾

Heat Exhaustion
This summer make sure your four legged friends are kept cool and hydrated! And please, please, please do not leave your kiddos in a hot vehicle!!!
Heat stroke is a term commonly used for hyperthermia and is no joke! Body temperatures above 106°F are abnormal and almost always related to excessive heat exposure if there are no previous illnesses.
Signs to look for:
- drooling
- panting
- warm to touch
- rapid heart rate
- dry nose
- your pet is quiet and not responsive, your pet may lay down and refuse to get up or be unable to get up.
- vomiting
- blood from mouth or in stool
- muscle tremors
- seizures
Prevention:
- Make sure to avoid the listed risk factors, if you are hot, your pet is too!
- Watch your pet closely and do not play too hard or exercise your dog on very hot days.
- Make sure to provide shaded areas, water, and good air circulation.
If you suspect a heat stroke, stop any activity and take your dog to a cool , shaded area and provide water. If symptoms do not improve, take your dog to the veterinarian immediately!

This is Koda, one of our mini patients. She’s a 2 year old female dwarf Netherland rabbit and was spayed here with us this week!
There are many good reasons as to why you should spay/neuter your rabbit:
⁃ For female rabbits spaying reduces if not almost completely eliminates the risk of getting reproductive cancers.
⁃ Rabbits are overall healthier and live longer.
⁃ Because the urge to mate has been removed, rabbits are more affectionate, calm, and emotionally stable.
⁃ Rabbits are much less prone to destructive and aggressive behavior when fixed.
⁃ Their droppings and urine will have less odor.
⁃ Rabbits of opposite s*xes can safely be bonded without the risk of hundreds of babies as a result.
⁃ Rabbits of the same s*x can become bonded without the risk of fighting.
If you or anyone you know has a furry companion that needs to be spayed or neutered don’t hesitate to give us a call! We would love to help your furry friend live a long and happy life! 🐇

Meet Oscar, one of our feline patients! The sweetest sphynx kitty.

Some quick facts about kittens:
⁃ Felines are considered kittens until they reach one year of age.
⁃ Kittens are all born with blue eyes and their permanent eye color appears around 4 weeks of age!
⁃ A kitten can be spayed or neutered when they reach 2 pounds in body weight which is usually around 8 weeks of age.
⁃ Kittens instinctively know how to use litter boxes!

If you have a new kitten or are planning to get one, you can reach out to us to schedule an appointment and get the newest addition to your family examined and vaccinated. 🐾

Have you gotten your avian pet up to date on their annual exam?

Yearly examinations are important for our pets just as we get checkups, our veterinarian will ensure your pet is in great and healthy condition! One reason it’s crucial to get your pet bird examined is due to their top survival skill of hiding signs of disease or injury. Thorough health examinations can help diagnose illness early and in many cases can save lives.

Minimizing stress during exams:

For our avian patients we will sometimes use sedation or anesthesia for birds to facilitate examination and/or diagnostic radiographs or sample collections, splint application, nail or beak trims, and surgical procedures. Sedation provides several benefits over manual restraint, which can cause stress for our avian pets.

Below is Sunny, a female 3-year-old conure who came in for sedated X-rays due to a broken toe. Sedation allowed us to decrease manual restraint and decrease her stress while taking the radiographs and fixing her toe.
