Dogs are really just the best
No one tells you how quickly dogs age. How one day you wake up and suddenly their face is all white, how their eyes start to seem more milky than before, how you have to call their name a few more times than you used to.

People tell you not to blink when you have children, but what about the dog who was with you before your children were even thought of? The dog who was by your side before you found the love of your life, the dog who jumped from apartment to apartment in your early 20’s. No one tell’s you to cherish every moment you have with them…

Cherish the dog. The one who’s been there through every break up and every dumb fight with your best friend. That dog who slept in the bed with you when you were lonely and made you feel safe when you left home. Cherish him, because one day you’ll take him on a walk and he’ll start to get tired before you and you’ll realize just how many years he’s been walking by your side.

CITY OF PORTALES ANIMAL SHELTER hours are by appointment Monday to Friday 10am to 4.30pm.
Closed on weekends and City Holidays.
**NOTE** High Plains Humane Society does not have these animals, we take pictures to ensure the animals are seen and get the best chance to be reclaimed, adopted or rescued.
If you have any questions regarding one of the animals located at the City of Portales Animal Shelter, Portales, New Mexico, or are interested in adopting, please contact the Portales Animal Shelter directly, by email at [email protected], or call directly at 575-607-7171. You can also call 575-356-4404, which is the number to Portales Police Dept., leave a message for Animal Control to return your call. How you THINK influences how you TRAIN
We often start to train our dogs because we want them to STOP doing something.
That's pretty hard.
Here's an example:
Take 3 seconds and think about anything you want, but...
DON'T think about Blue Giraffes
(we'll wait for you)
Hard, right?
Now, take 3 more seconds and DO NOT think about Blue Giraffes.
Instead - think about Pink Hippos.
Way easier, right?
When we work with dogs, it is always best to approach training by asking, 'What do I want my dog to DO?'
It's a small mental shift that can bring great rewards!

She has over 15 years of experience in training dogs of all ages, breeds, and skill levels.
