💔 Meet Stormy – Our Little Fighter With the Biggest Heart 💔
Stormy came to us from the Las Cruces shelter as a fospice case — meaning “foster hospice.” We weren’t sure why yet - and we didn't actually know she would become one; but one look into her kind, gentle eyes and we knew she deserved to feel safe, loved, and comfortable no matter what her story held.
It turns out, her story is a brave one. After arriving, Stormy was diagnosed with heartworm and a significant heart murmur — two serious conditions for a senior pup. What’s even more surprising is that she was heartworm tested at the shelter, so we’re not entirely sure what happened between then and now. Unfortunately, heartworm can develop quickly, and with how many mosquitoes we’ve had this year, it’s become all too easy for dogs to get infected — even the ones who’ve previously tested negative.
Treatment isn’t easy or cheap, but Stormy has shown us she’s not ready to give up yet… and we’re not ready to give up on her. ❤️
Heartworm treatment can range from $800–$1,500, and care for a heart murmur (including antibiotics, cardiac monitoring, and supportive medications) can add another $400–$700. The exact cost depends on how much treatment she ultimately needs, so we’re sharing both the low and high ends of what we’re preparing for. It’s a lot for a small rescue like ours, but seniors like Stormy deserve the same fighting chance as any young dog.
We haven’t asked for help in quite a while, but this time we’re humbly asking our community to step up for this sweet girl. Every single dollar makes a difference — whether it covers a dose of medication or helps fund her next vet visit.
