🍑 Peaches still needs a fur-ever home❗️

Fluffy mystery. Toothy grin. Professional introvert.

Peaches is approximately 2 years old and 100% some kind of “head-scratcher” breed — like, maybe if a mop and a teddy bear had a baby and it went to a salon. We truly have no idea. What we do know is she’s got major main character energy once she feels safe. Until then, she’s more like a background character quietly judging you from across the room (with love).

She was an owner surrender down in southern New Mexico and is now fully vetted, healthy, and freshly fluffed for her forever. Peaches is sweet as actual peach pie — just the kind of pie that needs to sit on the counter a minute before you slice into it. She’s a little reserved at first, but under that cautious exterior is a playful, curious pup who just needs time and trust to shine.

Her ideal match?
Someone with patience, humor, and maybe a lint roller. Adoption meets may be a slow burn — she might give you a cold shoulder, or she might become your emotional support gremlin immediately. Either way, she needs someone who gets that good things take time (and sometimes come with underbites).

She's been living with other dogs and kids without incident. We have no idea how she is with cats.

💰 Adoption Fee: $200
🛑 High grooming needs, medium zoomies, low tolerance for nonsense.
👑 Fully vetted, freshly brushed, emotionally layered.

Update: Ride secured!

🎆 INDEPENDENCE WEEKEND HAIL MARY 🎆
Las Cruces ➡️ Hatch
🚗 Just 40 miles — about 45 minutes
🕧 Pickup around 12:30 PM — but exact timing is still fluid!
💬 You’ll be added to a group chat to make coordination super easy!

A senior pup in Las Cruces is ready for her freedom ride — and she just needs one short lift to change her whole world.

This sweet girl has a furever hospice placement waiting in Albuquerque — the kind of home most animals only dream of — and they just happen to be passing through Hatch today. The stars are aligning… but their schedule is tight, and they can’t make it all the way to Las Cruces.

Here’s where you come in. We’re looking for a kind soul who can do the quick Las Cruces ➡️ Hatch handoff, around 12:30 PM (give or take). That simple ride will get her into the arms of her final family — a place filled with love, comfort, and dignity for however long she has left.

💫 It’s her birthday. She’s made it another year. Let’s help her celebrate with the miracle she’s been waiting for.

📍 Las Cruces to Hatch | ~45 minutes
🧡 The shelter is bending over backward to make this happen — on a holiday!
🐾 We’ve got her ready. We just need her ride.

Can you be her Independence Day angel? Reach out if you can help or want more info!

Milka, Cookie and Brownie have all been adopted! They're all doing well in their homes, and they were all fixed this past weekend, which led to them getting to spend time together again. This is Brownie resting up in his crate a few hours about being neutered, waiting for his humans to arrive and take him home.

Update: Dusty has been adopted! Happy tails, buddy!

Update: Dusty is covered for fostering, but he still needs a fur-ever home.

Dusty and our other shaggy pup, Peaches, had 9 adoption applications between, and much to our surprise, not a single one worked out.
If you're interested in an adoption or a trial adoption, we'd like to hear from you!
Dusty is about 2 years old and 20 pounds. He's fixed, up-to-date on vaccinations and recently groomed. He's doing well in a home with kids and other dogs, and is good in a crate. Dusty is nervous with new people, but he warms up quickly. Plus, every now and then, he meets someone he likes immediately: He practically flung himself at his foster dad in delight the moment they met.
If you think you might have a place for our Dusty pup, please fill out the application below, and we'll contact you soon.

Update: Peaches is covered for the weekend but still needs an adopter!

Peaches needs a short-term foster starting tomorrow (Friday) through Monday.
An adoption or trial adoption would be even better. She and our other shaggy cutie Dusty received nine adoption applications between them, and to our surprise, not a single one worked out for either dog.
She's around 2 years old, about 20 pounds, spayed and fully vaccinated. She's been living with kids and other dogs without incident, and is good in a crate. Peaches is shy when first meeting new people, but give her a little time, and she'll be all about kisses and cuddles!

⚠️ Did you know we have a branch of PLR called Arwen's Attic of ABQ? 🐾 ⚠️

It’s our little resource hub for other rescues—a kind of pet supply thrift store filled with donated items (we even have doggy life jackets right now 🛟). From time to time, if a community member is really struggling, we’ll quietly help out with a bag of food or supplies. While that support is very limited and reserved for emergencies, we do what we can because we’re 100% donation-based. We also support our local shelters—last year we delivered an entire carload of food to Animal Humane NM!

With that said… we need some help.

Here’s what Arwen’s Attic needs right now:

🦴 DOG & CAT FOOD — we are completely out!
We’re especially in need of:

Puppy, adult, or all life stages dog food

Kitten, cat, or all life stages cat food

Bonus: Wet food for both dogs and cats would be amazing if you’re able!

Chewy sells Wholesome brand dog food—40lbs for $47! If that’s too much, we understand. Anything good-quality helps. We kindly ask to avoid Kibbles & Bits, Ol’ Roy, or chicken-based formulas if there’s no cost difference (15% of dogs are allergic, and many react to chicken fat!). With cats, we’re a bit less picky, but try to avoid foods that are mostly fillers.

✨ Fun fact: One of our fosters switched their Great Dane from Dog Chow to Wholesome and went from feeding 10 cups a day to 5.5! It might cost a little more upfront, but it lasts longer and is easier on their tummy.

🐶 Used Supplies (in working condition)

Puppy playpens (lifesavers for “oops” litters and rescue partners)

Dog crates, kennels, carriers
Note: Broken or incomplete crates can be hard to dispose of—please only donate functional items!

🐾 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Arwen’s Attic is growing, and we need extra hands to keep things running! If you’ve got a few hours a month and a heart for rescue, we can put you to good use. No experience needed—just kindness, flexibility, and a willingness to help.

We’re especially looking for help with:

Washing kennels, playpens, and beds

Sorting and organizing collars, harnesses, and supplies

Repairing toys and pet gear

Transporting food and donations to shelters

Helping us respond to donation offers and volunteer messages

💬 Want to help? Message us with:

1. How much time you have (even just monthly!)

2. What you’re most interested in doing

3. What paw-spired you to volunteer?

We’ll match you with something that fits and support you the whole way. Arwen’s Attic runs on community—and we’d love to have you as part of ours!

💸 Monetary Donations
What we don’t get in supplies, we try to buy. Every dollar supports Arwen’s Attic or our low-cost vaccine clinics. $1, $5, or $10—it all adds up. Our PayPal link is attached if you'd like to chip in.

💡 Have other donation ideas? Message us—we’d love to hear from you.

We are SO grateful for your continued support. It really takes a village—but thanks to you, Arwen’s Attic is becoming something truly special. ❤️🐾

A Note From Our Rescue: In Memory of Mikayla Raines

This week, the rescue world lost one of its brightest, kindest souls. Mikayla Raines, founder of SaveAFox and a passionate fox rehabber, took her own life—reportedly after years of enduring public scrutiny, online harassment, and the heavy toll of constant judgment.

We didn’t know Mikayla personally, but we know her story. Too well.

Because what happened to her isn’t rare. In rescue, it happens a lot. People dig up fragments of truth, twist them into a new narrative, and hold onto someone’s worst moment with clenched fists. They pick and prod and post, as if tearing someone down is a public service.

Someone once took a screenshot of a deeply personal post we shared about a loss in our lives. The message they added to it? That they wished it had been us who passed away.

Let that sink in.

Imagine sharing a death announcement and being met with, “I wish it were you instead.”
Imagine having your every move picked apart by people who weren’t even there.
Imagine waking up each day wondering what private conversation will be exposed, what decision will be questioned, what version of your truth will be dissected by strangers.

Every rescuer—every single one—has made hard calls they pray were right. None of us are perfect. We all carry the weight of the animals we couldn't save, the judgments we endured, and the moments we had to choose the least-worst option.

Personally, there was a time in my life when this pressure—and the relentless cruelty that came with it—nearly broke me. I won’t go into detail here, but it was more than “having a hard time.” It was real. And it was serious. I’ve had people threaten me, contact my workplace, reach out to my family. This isn’t just gossip—it’s targeted harassment. If it can happen to a small rescue like ours in Albuquerque… imagine what Mikayla was facing.

So here’s our plea:

Ask more questions.

Go to the source.

Stop attacking people from behind a screen.

And don’t assume you know the whole story—because you don’t. None of us do unless we were there.

Our board lives in a constant state of fear that we’ll be the next ones dragged. One of our members is too afraid to fundraise for their dog’s necessary medical care because they’ve already survived the trauma of public shaming once. We carry those scars, even while we keep showing up.

And show up we do.

2,748 animals saved.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars poured into care.
Over 15,000 animals vaccinated.
407 microchips administered.
Countless kittens, puppies, and lives that had someone in their corner.

If we had never started, where would those animals be now?

Please remember this: words matter. Words can save—but they can also destroy. We can’t afford to lose another soul to cruelty. We can’t afford another Mikayla Raines.

Be kind. Always. The animals aren’t the only ones who need compassion.

🌪️ Meet Dusty 🌪️
From mop… to magnificent.

Dusty is living proof that fairy tales sometimes begin with dreadlocks and confusion. When he arrived at the shelter, he looked like a floor mop that had seen things — tangled, thorn-covered, and entirely misunderstood. But under all that chaos? A literal prince. Like, Cocker Spaniel realness with a side of Disney glow-up montage.

He’s about 2 years old, sweet as a cinnamon roll, and surprisingly low-drama for someone who once resembled a tumbleweed. Despite his name, Dusty is not a mess. He’s gentle, polite, and won’t stir up a storm in your house (unless you count the occasional excited zoomie).

🚻 Important side note: Dusty squats to p*e. It’s kind of his thing. He has no idea he’s a boy. We assume he’ll figure it out eventually, especially if he has a big doggy brother to guide him toward the art of the classic leg lift. Until then… p*e-on-leg may be part of your bonding journey. 💦

✨ He’s:

Fully vetted, freshly de-mopped, and rocking a soft new coat

High-maintenance in the grooming department (he requires brushing, not drama)

Low-maintenance in the vibe department (he’s chill AF)

Ready for a forever home that sees the royal heart under the rescue fluff

Adoption Fee: $200
Adoption meets might take a little patience — he’s still getting used to being adored — but once he feels safe, Dusty’s just a lovebug looking for his place in the world.

Apply to meet him: tinyurl.com/plradopt

Let’s help this former mop find his happily ever after. 👑🧡

Meet Dixie — Our Very First Clinic Pup of the Day! 🐾

This is Dixie, and she set the bar HIGH for cuteness today. She showed up bright and early for her vaccines and a little pawdicure, and we’re all officially in love. 💕 Just look at those eyes. That floof. That "please-hold-me-forever" energy.

If Dixie can make it in for her wellness care, we’re gently (but emotionally) wondering… why hasn’t your pup? 👀

✅ Vaccines keep your pets safe
✅ Nail trims prevent injury and help them walk comfortably
✅ And showing up supports our mission to help even more animals!

We know schedules get wild, but our team is here, ready to help—even if your dog is spicy, scared, or overdue. We promise: no judgment, just care.

📍We’re at Boofy’s Best for Pets on Cutler in Albuquerque
🕚 Clinic Hours: 10 AM – 2 PM (rabies at 11)
📋 Rabies ordered? Please be ready to fill out your certificate info at check-in.
🚗 Can’t come inside? Car-side service is available for truly reactive dogs—just use only if absolutely needed, since it slows down the line for everyone.

‼️Bonus Tip: If you need to add anything, this is the best time to do it—right before your appointment—so we can keep check-in smooth.
🐾 Litters of puppies? Please carry them inside—stores are high-risk for parvo and other germs.

Treats are encouraged. Noses will be booped. Let’s make Dixie proud. 💅💉

I know its a long shot, but are there any wonderful vets that might volunteer to help us a couple hours one weekend in July to administer a rabies vaccine? We bring donuts and coffee and a bunch of gratitude 🐾💓
