✨Belinda! A Gentle, Shy Puppy Who Blossoms in a Home✨
Belinda is an extremely shy 8mo Shar-Pitty who is struggling in the shelter environment. She shuts down at the shelter, and returning there would significantly set back her emotional progress. But the moment she spent just one night in a home? She transformed. Her sleepover revealed the real Belinda: soft, curious, gentle, and trying so hard to be brave.
Here’s what we know about this sweet girl:
🐶 Dog-Friendly: Belinda has done well with all the dogs she’s met so far… male, female, big, small. She presents as quite submissive and respectful, never pushy. A dog companion could even help her confidence grow, and we would probably prefer for her to go to a home with another dog… but she may do well solo with a patient human. She seems to blossom quicker with the presence of other dogs, but so far she isn’t necessarily interested in interacting with them a whole lot. She is still decompressing… and still trying to figure out if she’s safe.
🐱 Good with Cats: This girl is a cat superstar, so far! She’s been around confident, sassy, grumpy, sweet, old, young… you name it! and she handles them beautifully. She mostly just quietly coexists, offering a curious sniff here and there before giving respectful space. She is more cat-scared if anything.
🏠 Great House Manners & Crate Trained: Belinda has been doing wonderfully in her crate and has shown solid house manners, especially being that she is a puppy. She keeps to herself, watches the room quietly, and is very easy to have in the home.
🧸 Emotionally Shut Down at the Shelter: In the home, she watches her humans with soft eyes from across the room, wanting so badly to trust. When gently invited onto the couch, she melts into you and accepts affection with her whole heart. She’s still timid, but she’s trying! truly trying! and she desperately needs a foster or adopter to keep her progress going.
👧 Kids: We haven’t seen her around kids yet, but there is nothing in her behavior that suggests she wouldn’t do well with a thoughtful introduction. She loves humans and just needs slow, gentle reassurance. She hasn’t shown any signs of aggression from what we have witnessed. She may be startled by kiddos… or she may be the type of shy dog that absolutely adores kiddos. At this moment, we don’t know!
⚖️ Size:
She’s petite, around 40lbs, and considered medium-sized. If you know anything about shar peis and pitties… you can probably imagine her size.
❤️ Why She Needs a Foster OR ADOPTER ASAP:
Belinda is not a dog who can emotionally handle being in the shelter. She blossoms in a home and retreats inward at the shelter. A foster or adoptive home would give her the safety and stability she needs to continue her progress and ultimately find her forever family.
If you are interested in fostering and have upcoming trips, no problem! The shelter can assist with dog-sitting, boarding, supplies, and all vet care. Belinda just need someone to give her a soft landing spot until adoption. Alternatively, you can apply to foster through our rescue and we will do the same!
Interested in adopting but you have planned trips? Let’s talk about it! We just want to see Belinda safe and happy.
If you can foster or want more information about meeting her, please reach out to the shelter or us. She deserves a chance to feel safe!
