A Friend of the Family Pet Care

Here in our home, we care for dogs that need extra love and attention. We offer specialized care for dogs that need rehabilitation, or have special needs.

We understand the special care that is needed for geriatric, orthopedic and neurologic dogs, and we make sure to give each of them the individual time ane attention they require. We go out of our way to make sure every dog we care for feels comfortable and right at home, we treated every dog like a member of our family, because when they leave, they leave as a new member of our family.

How Cold Is Too Cold For Dogs?

Most dogs are safe when the temperature is above 45 F. When temperatures dip below 45 F, some canines will start to feel the effects of the cold.
At 32 F breeds with thin coats, and those that are smaller, with less fat, start to become at risk for adverse effects. these dogs should not be outside for more than a few minutes, and should wear a sweater or coat.
When temperatures fall to 20 F, or lower, dogs are at high risk of developing frostbite, and hypothermia.
Older dogs, sick dogs, and younger puppies are most susceptible to cold. They should not be exposed to colder temperatures for long.
A dog’s normal body temperature should be between 99.5 F and 102.4 F.
Remember that wind chill can make it feel much colder than it is. Always pay attention to your dog for signs he is too cold.
Some breeds are more susceptible to cold weather. This list include hairless breeds, short haired breeds, smaller dogs, and giant breeds. Some cold sensitive pups include Beagles, Boxers, Chihuahuas, Dobermans, French Bulldogs, Greyhounds, Great Danes, Pugs, and Terriers.
Never let your dog sleep outside in cold weather.
