Although loss is never easy, grief can also include joy and creativity. We worked with this family to design urns for their child, then mother and grandmother, to reflect their respective lives with meaningful imagery. Two different pottery decoration techniques (permanent decals + painting) were used to bring this hummingbird to life. Although acrylic painting on finished ceramics isn’t as common a finishing technique as glazing (or painting with underglazes), I ♥️ the flexibility it offers, plus no risk in firing again (as with underglazes).

But like so much of our work, they have evolved and grown into something more. 💫Each urn is a tribute, personalized with unique ears, noses and coloring based on customer photographs. Did you know our biodegradable turtle urns can be customized with names, dates or other text? 🐢 This family chose a pair of painted turtles for their parents’ farewell. Ken and Debi were childhood sweethearts who started dating at age 14 and married at 19. Ken passed suddenly several years prior to Debi, whose wish was to be laid to rest with her husband in the waters of Bermuda where they often celebrated wedding anniversaries. 💙💙 Ken and Debi’s turtles will carry their ashes out to sea, sink gracefully, then biodegrade naturally over time.
