Eva was a blast to hang out with all weekend, sharp puppy teeth and all! An active weekend of eat, poo, p*e, play, sleep, p*e, repeat!

I love the opportunity to pet sit the young puppies, keeping up with the training and teaching process with a solid daily routine, a potty training system, teaching appropriate play and getting all that energy nice and used up before crate time! When I’m watching young puppies, they’re not even allowed out of my sight and close proximity. They’re either engaging with me directly, or I’m getting up to follow them to the water bowl or wherever they’re allowed to explore. And we all know the minute they start that sudden sniffing around the floor… time to go outside! And all the praise with each successful outdoor potty 😊 Good times.

This certainly includes your professional pet sitters as well! Such as when we’re attempting to administer certain medications, do nail trims, or carry out specialized hands-on care for your pets.

If your pet is not cooperating, is terrified, or putting up a fight, we will need to work together to find another solution to get your pet the care he or she needs without inducing fear and causing mental or physical trauma.

Local compounding pharmacies are a great place to start for quickly obtaining easier-to-administer medications. Decensitization training and sedatives from your vet can make a huge difference for things like nail trims. And trust between your pet and its pet sitter is essential for safe and successful care.

I know how hard it can be to leave your dogs who struggle with separation anxiety. But there are things that can help! First, always consult with a professional, such as a certified trainer and/or veterinary behaviorist. A proactive approach is key. And of course a wonderful proactive action is to find an experienced pet sitter to keep your dog company and assist in your behavioral modification efforts while you’re away … *hint hint* 😊
