Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the pet Basic Life Support class put on by the Animal Emergency Medical Training veterinary team, and obtain my Recover BLS certification!
AEMT is the gold standard for where to turn for up-to-date, veterinary-grade animal emergency response training. AEMT provides training for different contexts in which an animal may experience a cardiac and respiratory emergency (including the pet-owner/pet-professional class I attended earlier this year). And while the Basic Life Support course is more relevant to the veterinary hospital setting (two-person rescuer situations), the information and hands-on training remain highly applicable to emergencies that occur outside of the hospital. This is mostly due to the fact that the most important part of CPR is the ability to administer high-quality chest compressions. So being able to continue practicing that essential aspect of the training in a hands-on setting is so valuable. Plus, with the future expansion of our pet care services, the ability to incorporate manual breathing support with a breathing mask and an Ambu bag can further aid us in our attempts at successful resuscitation (excluding intubation in single-rescuer settings, as seen in the photo).
I'm so grateful to AEMT in bringing their Recover BLS certification course to Albuquerque this year! See you next time.
