Meet Leo.
Leo is a very lucky boy.
After being alerted to Leo’s plight at BCAS by our vet partners, Argos Rescue made the call at 9 pm on a Thursday night to BCAS. Their amazing staff answered the call.
As of Friday morning, Leo is in our care 💕 Thank you to BCAS, Argos volunteers, and our vet partners and their staff for always looking out for these pups.
Chris from All 4 Paws Orthopedics immediately came into town to meet Leo and assess him for prosthetics.
Leo will have some extensive surgeries in his future. For right now, Leo is safe, happy, and extremely loved.
Thank you all for your continued support and love for those without voices.

While slight weight loss in birds may not be anything to worry about, it can also be a symptom of Parrot Wasting Syndrome. If your parrot is also vomiting more than usual, it’s probably time to schedule an appointment.
Did you know that pets require routine dental visits just like people do? The fact is that giving your pet an occasional bone to chew on is not enough. Pets need their teeth cleaned to prevent gum disease and tooth loss.
The most common vaccinations among cats are for Feline Panleukopenia, Feline Calicivirus, Feline Leukemia, and Rabies. Certain cats may be susceptible to other diseases, however, so a thorough evaluation is very important.
If your cat loves catnip, don't worry. Although it's a mild hallucinogen, it's safe. The effects of catnip exposure last around 15 minutes, and a cat will not "overdose" on catnip, even if he or she eats a leaf or two.
While spaying and neutering your pets is important for controlling the pet population, it can also help your stress levels. If a female is in heat in your neighborhood, indoor male pets still know and will make a fuss about wanting out.
If your cat or dog has suddenly started urinating more frequently, a visit to the vet is most likely in order. Frequent urination can be a symptom of one of several major health issues, including diabetes, liver or kidney disease, or adrenal gland disease.
If your cat is continuing to scratch objects other than your scratching post, try placing the post near the object for a while, to encourage them to use the post instead of the object, or spray the object with one of the "keep off" sprays that are available.
Unfortunately, something as simple as not having your pet’s teeth cleaned regularly could seriously impact their health. Left unchecked, a dental disease could spread to their heart or lungs and cause major issues.
If your bird develops disheveled feathers, lethargy, lack of appetite, or you notice sudden diminished vocalizations, it may be in need of medical attention and should be taken to an avian veterinarian as soon as possible for a thorough examination.
It’s important to remember that changes in behavior and energy levels are among two of the most common ways your pet can tell you that something isn’t right with them. If you’re not sure how to help them feel better, we’re here for you.
Did you know that nearly 15 percent of all lost pets never find their way home? Pet ID micro-chipping is a smart move, as it makes your pet easy to locate, no matter how far he or she has strayed.
While bringing a new kitten into your home can be an exciting time, it’s also important to protect your existing cats from it. Not only do kittens usually have claws like tiny razorblades, but they could also be carriers of disease.
Make sure to keep chocolates, coffee, and products with caffeine away from your dog. These all have a substance called methylxanthine, which can trigger vomiting and diarrhea, along with hyperactivity, panting, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors and seizures.
Syrian hamsters like to be on their own, they are solitary creatures and can be extremely territorial – they need and like their own space. When put with other hamsters they can become very aggressive so it’s a good idea to take your veterinarians advice on this one.
While colic is common among horses, you can take steps to prevent it. Make sure to stick to a regular feeding schedule, always have access to plenty of fresh water, and provide plenty of turn out time.
If you have a pet who gets very anxious about vet visits, you may want to check out synthetic pheromones. These widely available substances mimic natural calming scents animals produce. A few sprays on a towel inside the pet carrier can help them relax in stressful situations.
Does it seem like almost everyone you know has a pet? According to a yearly survey of pet ownership, the number of pets in homes in the U.S. has tripled since 1970. According to recent statistics, more than 6 out of every 10 homes in the country include a pet.
Spaying and neutering your pet can help reduce the strain on our animal shelters. Millions of unwanted pets end up in shelters each year, and spaying and neutering is one responsible way to help combat this growing problem.
If you are bringing home a hamster, don’t forget the exercise wheel. In the wild, hamsters constantly roam in search of food and so exercise is a part of their everyday life. Be sure the wheel is large enough so that your hamster can run with ease.
While some cats display very dog like behavior, there is one thing you should actually watch out for. Normal for dogs, panting behavior in cats is usually a sign of a medical emergency. Please give us a call as soon as possible if your cat ever experiences panting.
Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if a cat isn't feeling well, but sudden changes in behavior are a good indication. If a normally affectionate cat suddenly acts withdrawn, or a self-sufficient cat seeks a lot of attention, it could indicate a health problem.
Dental fractures in cats and dogs require immediate veterinarian dental care. Dogs get this quite often from chewing rocks or other overly hard objects that crack or break their teeth. In some extreme cases, pulp is exposed, making eating and chewing painful and leaving the tissue open to infection.
Signs your dog may have fleas include: excessive scratching, licking, or biting at the skin, hair loss, hot spots, allergic dermatitis, tapeworms and flea dirt (looks like small black dots) against your dog's skin.
