Happy Independence Day!

Here are some helpful tips to keep your pets safe while celebrating:

When celebrating with fireworks or flames, it's important to take precautions to ensure the safety of your pets.
Keep them indoors in a quiet, secure place
Closely monitor their human food intake. Several foods we can eat are not safe for them!
Be aware that other pets may be anxious, which could lead to fear or fights.
Keep your pets away from fireworks or open flames to prevent accidents or injuries.

We hope you and your furry friends have a safe and happy 4th!

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy employs admitting shockwaves to an area of the body. The high-intensity sound waves interact with the tissues in the dog’s body resulting in the stimulation of blood vessels, reducing chronic inflammation, stimulating the production of collagen, and dissolving calcium buildup. The act of applying shockwaves to a non-healing area is believed to encourage the healing process and promote pain relief to chronic conditions.

Is my Dog a good candidate for Shockwave Therapy?

Backed by more than a decade of clinical research, shockwave can be used to decrease lameness, increase mobility and relieve pain in dogs with:

Osteoarthritis
Tendon & ligament injuries
Wounds
Bone fractures
Back Pain
Shoulder instability
Dissolving bladder stones

Do you think your dog is a good candidate for Shockwave Therapy? Give us a call today!

Shadow is happy and healing after his Carpal Arthrodesis was performed by Dr. Kendra Freeman and our amazing surgery team. Just look at this sweet face!

What are Arthrodesis?
The carpal, or wrist, joint in a dog is susceptible both to injuries and arthritis. These issues can lead to the deterioration of the joint beyond repair. This occurrence is very painful for the dog, and can be determined by limping and hyperextension of the affected paw. The dog will likely allow the paw to hang, drooped downwards as it walks.

To treat this problem, a procedure called arthrodesis can be used. This is a surgery in which the cartilage in the joint is removed, and the joint is permanently fused together. A bone graft is used to ease healing while metal inserts are placed to secure the position of the fusion. The bones can then heal together, which greatly reduces the amount of pain that the dog experiences.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Did you know that alcohol can be poisonous to dogs? Instead of sharing your green beer with your furry friend, try giving them some pet-safe green treats instead!

If you suspect your pet may have ingested a poisonous substance, immediately call your veterinarian, local emergency veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center Phone number at (888) 426-4435 (a consultation fee may apply). You can also go directly to the emergency vet if your local veterinarian is not available. Be sure to bring the item ingested if possible, to help your veterinarian treat your pet. To be prepared in the event of a poisoning, keep a notecard of your local vet’s phone number, along with the nearest emergency vet clinic and directions.

Pets are notorious for getting into things they are not supposed to and ma*****na is no exception. Exposures are becoming more common with the increasing use of
medicinal ma*****na products being used in people. Fortunately, THC (the active
component of ma*****na) has a high margin of safety when ingested making the risk for serious complications in pets very low.
Visit our site to read the full handout on commonly asked questions and information on how we will treat your pet if they are experiencing Ma*****na toxicity.
