🎄 It’s the 11th Save of Christmas! Meet Muffin, a 10-year-old cat whose story could’ve ended in tragedy, but thanks to a vet’s kindness & your support, she now has a loving forever home. 💕

After Muffin’s owner passed away, her family tried to have her euthanized, but the vet refused, knowing she was healthy. The vet contacted us, and we couldn’t turn away that sweet face. 🐾

Muffin was adopted and is now living the dream as a lap cat. In fact, she even gets “lovies” in the middle of the night when she asks for it. Muffin’s mom is completely in love with her, and doesn’t mind when Muffin decides it’s time to play or snuggle at any hour. 🐱💖

Muffin’s story is a reminder there are still so many animals in need of a second chance. Help us continue to turn heartbreaking stories into happy endings—donate today or check out our wishlist! 🙏

On the ninth Save of Christmas, we present Trouble. At 15, Trouble and his brother, Sasha, ended up at a shelter, a tough place for senior cats. Though we weren’t sure if they were bonded, we knew we had to help. After some time at JSCR we determined they weren’t bonded. Sasha went on to be adopted, and Trouble moved into a foster home with Myra, his new foster mom.

Trouble quickly showed he was one of the most affectionate cats Myra had ever met, and they formed a deep bond. Recently, Trouble began to struggle with dental issues, but after dental surgery, Trouble is feeling better and eating well again!

This holiday season, we’re sharing the stories of 12 cats saved in 2024. Our first Save of Christmas is Mathias, who came to JSCR after years on the streets. He was frail, matted, and facing serious health challenges, including FeLV and FIV. Despite the odds, Mathias thrived! He gained weight, played, and even discovered a love for painting. His “resting grump face” stole the hearts of many, and his sweet spirit filled us with joy for six wonderful months. Mathias’s journey is a reminder of the difference love can make.

As we continue to care for cats like Mathias, we humbly ask for your support. Your donations—whether through our wishlist or a monetary gift—allow us to provide life-saving care, food, and the love these animals need to thrive. This stunning 15-year-old black panther is Smokey. He was surrendered to the shelter after years of living with his previous owner. 🖤 Heartbreaking, right? At that age, Smokey should’ve been enjoying his golden years in the comfort of his home, not facing the uncertainty and stress of shelter life.

To make matters worse, black cats like Smokey often get overlooked. Despite his beautiful, sleek coat, Smokey’s chances of being adopted were slim. We knew he’d likely languish in the shelter for far too long—or face euthanasia if space got tight. 😔

But then Sandra, a kind-hearted new foster, stepped in and gave Smokey the chance he deserved. Now, he’s part of the JSCR family, where he’s learning what true dedication and love feel like. 🐾✨ Smokey’s getting all the affection he needs to flourish in his golden years.

We’re so grateful that Smokey’s story didn’t end in a shelter. And it’s thanks to you that we can continue to give cats like him the care and safety they deserve. Our $20K matching fundraiser is still going strong (yes, we know, we won’t stop talking about it!). Some of you might recognize this sweet face from our newsletter. Fearless is 15 years young and has had quite the journey to get here. Surrendered by his owners due to litterbox issues, he was offered medical support to rule out any health concerns—but unfortunately, his owners decided they just didn’t want him anymore. 😞

But here’s the good news: Fearless is living his best life with us at JSCR! He’s settled in beautifully, gets along with all the cats, loves snuggling, and has a preference for drinking from the kitchen faucet. 🐱 We discovered he’s hyperthyroid which is being treated, and his litterbox issues are a thing of the past. Fearless is proof that even with a rough start, a little care and understanding can make all the difference.

While Fearless is living his dream, we’re working to make sure more animals like him have a safe, welcoming place to land. That’s why our fundraiser for $60K to support our operations and open our senior cat sanctuary and retail space is so important. We know we’ve mentioned it a lot (you probably have it memorized by now!), but it’s because this is so crucial to be able to open our doors for to more senior cats in need. Every dollar goes directly to making sure we can keep helping cats just like Fearless.

🐾 Queenie Update! 🐾

As you know, Queenie, our senior gal from Carlsbad, has been settling in at JSCR. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, she can take her sweet time adjusting to her new surroundings.

While she still isn’t ready to pose for the paparazzi, Queenie recently had her first vet visit, which is standard for all new seniors here at JSCR. The good news? The vet believes Queenie is likely closer to 15 than 20, and she’s in overall good health. Of course, she has a few age-related issues, like cataracts and kidney disease, which are common for cats her age. We are pleased she is doing well, and are glad she landed with us, where she can live out her golden years in comfort.

As you know, caring for senior cats like Queenie takes time, resources, and a whole lot of heart. It is your support that makes it possible for us to provide the best possible care for these special cats. And with your help, we’re working toward expanding our mission with the creation of a senior cat sanctuary and adoption center, a dedicated space where cats like Queenie can get the care they need and even find their perfect home.

One of the biggest expenses we face at JSCR is veterinary care—and for good reason. Caring for senior cats means dealing with age-related health issues that require constant care, medication, treatments, and sometimes emergency procedures. This year alone, we’ve spent over $55,000 on vet care, and the year isn’t over yet! 😱
