I climbed up on the container today and for a moment, I wondered if they’d be bothered.

Turns out, I didn’t need to worry.

When your relationship is built on trust, a change in perspective doesn’t shake the foundation.

Today I brought my saddle over to Twist. No halter, no lead rope, just us in the pasture.

Even when Tiger wandered off to graze, he stood quietly and let me tack him up, completely at liberty. Not many horses will do that. But Twist did, and he did so with calm, relaxed body language.

It wasn’t always this way. When I bought him, I was told he was aggressive, hated being worked, and would run people over or kick to get out of doing anything.

What changed?
It wasn't the horse; it was the conversation.

Consent in horsemanship doesn’t mean never asking.
It means building enough trust that when you do ask…
they’re comfortable saying “yes.”

With Twist on summer pasture and already carrying a few extra pounds, it was time to break out the grazing muzzle.

I picked up a GG Equine muzzle from SmartPak, and so far, it seems to be doing the trick. Twist isn’t exactly thrilled, he’s been going up to everyone trying to convince them he’s starving, but he’s figured out how to get a little grass through it, and he hasn’t rubbed himself raw trying to get it off. That feels like a win all around.

Ollie saw the specialist Monday for a clearer picture of his tendon injury. As suspected, it’s a deep digital tendon rupture. The appointment helped confirm the severity and gave us some possible paths forward.

For now, we’re starting with supportive care: Back On Track and SmartTherapy ThermoBalance wraps, and SmartStride Ultra, all ordered from SmartPak, red light therapy, and bodywork. The goal is to support healing as much as possible before we reassess.

A follow-up ultrasound hasn’t been scheduled yet, I’m giving him some time with this new protocol before deciding on next steps. If you’ve had experience with tendon injuries that were slow to heal, I’d be grateful to hear what helped your horse.

Despite limited turnout, Ollie has been doing fantastic behaviorally and emotionally. He’s been getting hand-walked regularly and has been a perfect gentleman through it all. ❤️

Behind the scenes: farm life edition.
Today’s task? Dragging the pasture with the 4-wheeler. Not glamorous, but necessary!
The horses? Unbothered. Grazing like royalty while I bump along trying to keep their turf tidy.

It’s not all training sessions and grooming days—sometimes it’s mud, manure, and making sure the fields stay healthy.

Today was a long one.
Peanut had a choke this morning. The vet got him through it, and he’s tucked in tonight with some soaked, soupy feed.
I managed to get out to Ollie for a grooming, a quiet hand walk, and a little red light therapy on his tendon.
Grateful to check the basics off the list today.

🌧 Small wins on a rainy day.

This handsome guy is heading to a new barn for a bit of a rehab stay. He’s been dealing with a tendon injury, and we’re hoping the change in routine and environment gives him the best shot at healing well.

He’s not always sure about the trailer, so we took some quiet time today to practice. With patience and a bit of teamwork, he self-loaded a couple of times—and that’s a pretty big deal for him.

We’ll be sharing the journey as it unfolds. Rehab isn’t always linear, but we’re in it with him, one thoughtful step at a time.

💻 If you’re working through something similar or want support from a distance, I offer virtual lessons and consults to help you and your horse build confidence and connection—wherever you are.

🧡 Lessons like these are some of my favorites.

In just one week, we have focused on creating comfort, encouraging relaxation, and helping this horse move with a little more freedom. His person has been so attentive, listening closely to what he’s communicating and supporting him through each step.

Progress isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s just softer. And that’s worth celebrating.

✨ Every partnership starts with a conversation.

If you're interested in building a more communicative partnership with your horse, feel free to reach out. Let's start the conversation.
