Today I brought my saddle over to Twist. No halter, no lead rope, just us in the pasture.
Even when Tiger wandered off to graze, he stood quietly and let me tack him up, completely at liberty. Not many horses will do that. But Twist did, and he did so with calm, relaxed body language.
It wasn’t always this way. When I bought him, I was told he was aggressive, hated being worked, and would run people over or kick to get out of doing anything.
What changed?
It wasn't the horse; it was the conversation.
Consent in horsemanship doesn’t mean never asking.
It means building enough trust that when you do ask…
they’re comfortable saying “yes.”
🐴 Honoring the horse. Empowering the rider.
