Never underestimate the power of repitition and muscle memory. was helping refill water and we discussed a single hose. Convo went something like this:
Me-How far do you think it is, from taken to faucet?
Him - not sure, I have a 150' tape on the porch
I start pacing it while he gets the tape and hands my the 0 end.
Me- 28
Him-and that means...?
Me-times 3 (as I walk away doing the math)
He gets back to the tank, and I'm at the faucet when I ask.
Me-how many feet?
Him-84'
Me-woo hoo! 🙌🏻
Him- takes out phone to do the math ..
Years of pacing distances and walking aisles with tape at 3' intervals have stuck!

Worth the read, and worth thinking about. This is all too common, and many don't realize that they have options.

Stop giving your money to trainers who talk down to you, and make you feel like sh*t 😫🙅‍♀️

I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of the trainer/client (trainer/student) dynamic that has been standardized and is continuing to the day to be accepted.

Why do we allow trainers to speak down to us?

Why is it okay for them to make us feel bad for making mistakes or being human?

Why are we accepting open ridicule, belittling, gaslighting, and worse from professionals we pay to teach us?

I can tell you I don’t accept it anymore. 🙅‍♀️

And you shouldn’t either!

If your trainer…

• makes you cry
• makes fun of you or your horse
• talks down to you
• makes disparaging remarks about you, your horse, or your riding
• talks about you behind your back
• yells at you
• throws things or in any way loses their temper around you or your horse
• or is in general unsupportive and negative

You need to be giving your hard earned money and precious time to someone else. No ifs ands or buts.

I don’t care how popular of a trainer they are, how many medals they’ve won, how fancy their horses are, or who says they are the “best”.

You and your horse deserve better. 🫵

I took Lazz to Equine Affaire years ago and participated in a clinic with him. It was an amazing time, and it led a 3 day private clinic with one of his certified trainers, and to huge shifts in the way I train and work with horses.

And that's a wrap! 4 days of equine learning and shopping. Tomorrow I sort thru purchases and check out the info on so many other items and organizations that I picked up literature for. Now it's time for bed!

Day 1 complete. I got to meet a podcast host that I've been listening to since she began her podcast, which was pretty neat. And we checked out a clinic taught by a trainer that I met and rode with years ago when I brought Lazz down here to Equine Affair. He was the one who made me rethink my training techniques and really got me into communicating and developing a partnership with my horse instead of just telling them what to do. It's been a pretty fun day!

No stirrup November is no problem for some! She regularly drops her irons on her own for parts of the lesson. Today we even trotted without stirrups.

It's No-Stirrup November! Do you/your barn participate? What are your favorite things to practice without stirrups? I'll admit, I generally hop on ba****ck rather than deal with crossing stirrups. Here in Vermont, it's a great time for ba****ck wanders through fields and woods! Yes,it's an old picture. No snow here yet. 🥶

Facebook often asks if people want to support a charity for their birthday. I was looking into this so I could support something related to Helene relief efforts and read that fb pays the donations at the beginning of the month, making any donations not accessible until the beginning of November! That's too long, so I donated directly to Moore Equine Feed & Pet Supply . I found them through 4Hooves Large Animal Services, a page I've been following for years. I've spoken with them directly before when Lazz was down in a tight space and they were able to give me ideas and ways to help him up. Moore's is one of the places they support donating too, along with a few others. For my birthday this year, considering donating to any Hurricane Relief programs. Every little bit helps!

Ollie was allowed to go on small walks and graze just before my wedding. I didn't want to risk an injury to him or I just prior to the wedding , so we just started on his outings. Last night was the first night (third outing) that he actually grazed. He's been so good living in an oversized stall all by himself. Some days I think I'm lucky that he's so good being alone, then I realize that it's a lot of work and time that I've put into Ollie that makes him comfortable being alone. This situation isn't ideal, and once he can have limited turnout, I'll bring him a friend, but for now I'll reap the benefits of encouraging confidence and curiosity.

A trail ride and some ring work was a great way to kick off wedding week!
