Walking your dog has many benefits for them including physical activity, boosting mental health, as well as strengthening your bond.

Gypsy was a stray that showed up at a farm in West Virginia. The owners of the farm let her stay with them until more kennel space opened up at the shelter nearby. Now Gypsy is here in Buffalo and has been doing amazing in her foster home!

If you’re looking for a loving and playful dog who is obsessed with you, then Gypsy is your girl! She loves to give kisses and be right next to you (or on you) at all times. Gypsy has been doing well with potty-training and crate-training, but she will need to keep working on these things as she adjusts to a new home when she is adopted. Her foster home does not have any children, but the people she met in West Virginia said she did well with the kids there. Since Gypsy can be energetic at times, a home with older children vs small toddlers would be better for her. Gypsy loves playing with the three other dogs in her foster home. She does not currently live with any cats so she would need to be tested with them at a potential furever home. An ideal home for Gypsy would be one where she has lots of room to run and play. She would do best with an active family who enjoys walks and the outdoors. Gypsy, like most dogs, would also benefit from training classes with her new owner in order to have a successful transition into her new home.

People don’t know what they are missing! LeeLou at rest ( and that doesn’t happen too often!)

Best Guess of Breed: Cur Mix
DOB: 3/15/24 (Almost 10 months)
Approximate Weight: 40lbs
S*x: Female
Spayed: Yes

Meet LeeLoo from Mississippi! This beautiful, brindle girl has been in her foster home for a little over week and has been adjusting very well. LeeLoo is currently living with her foster mom and dad and 4 other dogs. The foster home doesn’t have cats, but she was in a home with them prior to being surrendered to Awesome Paws and there weren’t any issues. Although she currently does not live in a home with children, kids have been over to visit and LeeLoo did well with them.

LeeLoo is young and has only been in her foster home a short time so she is still learning to go to the bathroom outside. She will need to continue to work on this in a new home. LeeLoo doesn’t mind being in the crate and can do basic commands like “sit” and “paw”. She also does well walking on a leash and while riding in the car.

LeeLoo is a perfect mix of silly and playful along with calm and cuddly. Everyone meet our sweetie girl Penny! Penny arrived to APR as a local surrender. Her previous home included two pre-teens who she seemed to do fine with. However, due to her size, her foster mom does recommend a home with kids who can keep up with her playfulness. This beautiful 8 month old Beagle mix has so much love to give and makes the best cuddle bug during nap and bed time. She is still a puppy so her foster mommy is still working with her on leash training and her high puppy energy. Potential adopters should note that she isn’t your typical sized beagle, and she will need a little bit of time to adjust to her new home. Our lover girl relies on trust with her new owner, so it is very important to be patient with her. That being said, she’s so smart and knows how to entertain herself when given a job. She’s driven and is always down to play. She checks so many major boxes!! Penny girl is doing well at potty and crate training. Penny knows her name, sit, paw, and lay down. She even sleeps through the entire night without any disturbances!

This is Frankie! He was unfortunately picked up locally and taken to animal control until APR decided to pull & foster him! With that being said, we have no idea what his parents are or how big he will be! He loves playing with his foster sister. Frankie knows how to sit with, of course, a treat in your hand. He is very alert, watching everything you do! Frankie goes in his crate with some treat motivation. He makes a few whimpers but settles down quickly. He sleeps all night in his crate and he is in there when his foster parents are at work. With that being said, he goes to the door when he needs to go out and you have about 15 seconds to open the door! Frankie loves to play with toys and chew on his bones. He is a very vocal boy. He sometimes will talk back to you or bark when he is playing with his foster sister. Frankie is learning on leash walking but would rather run around in the yard.

Frankie would love a family to call his own and feel secure that it will be his forever home. Being a PUPPY, an active family that can provide exercise and stimulate his learning experiences would be great so he can become his best self.

Forrest is a 2 year old hound who recently made the trip to Buffalo from a shelter in West Virginia. While we dont know much about his previous life, it seems he is very comfortable outside and may have been kept primarily outdoors. Since coming to Buffalo with his new foster mom, he has begun to adapt werll to the benefits of living indoors. He loves a comfy couch, a soft blanket, and was absolutely amazed when introduced to the dog bed. He is an attention seeker, and wants to be wherever the people are. While he takes a little bit of time to settle down (after sniffing the whole house with that hound nose of his), he generally is content to lay and watch TV or chew a toy. He has lived with both male and female dogs, and is happy to play or just lay around. He has had limited interaction with cats, but when he encounters them in his foster home he just stares at them and whines. He is doing well with going potty outside, but does occasionally struggle with marking (we’re hoping getting him neutered will help with that!) and wears a belly band for now. He will go in the crate both during the day while his foster mom is at work, and overnight. He is fine in the crate during the day, but occasionally will whine at night if he hears movement around the house. He is learning how to walk on a leash, and is very excited anytime he is outside. He has not been exposed to kids since moving to Buffalo, but is generally very gentle and listens well when told “no” etc. Forrest would greatly benefit from a home that will allow him space to roam, both in and outdoors.
