Meet Aaron! He’s a little 7 month old cutie pie! Aaron came to APR as a local surrender. His previous owner worked long hours and was not able to give him the attention and training he needed. Aaron walks great on a leash, and loves to sniff every tree. He takes care of his business on walks, no accidents in the house so far. He tolerates the crate, but of course he prefers to sit on your lap. Because of the Chihuahua in him, he’s quite affectionate and a kisser. He is alert and will bark at strangers, but will calm down after a proper introduction. Aaron is looking for someone/a family who will continue to train and nurture him, and help him to reach his full potential.

Sadie is a 2 year old brindle mountain cur female about 46lbs that was surrendered with her sister to the shelter by their 99y old owner because he can no longer care for them. He had them from puppy age. They all lived outside and hunted but came in during cold weather. They are gentle and affectionate with children but they do not do well with cats. They are crate trained and walk on a leash. They have very kind eyes and are very affectionate, Sadie is very toy and treat motivated.

Dixie is a blue colored 8y registered mountain cur female about 48lbs that was surrendered with her sister to the shelter by their 99y old owner because he can no longer care for them. He had them from puppy age. They all lived outside and hunted but came in during cold weather. They are gentle and affectionate with children but they do not do well with cats. They are crate trained and walk on a leash. Dixie has a tumor looking spot on her lower ribs on the left side but that will be checked out by a vet. They have very kind eyes and are very affectionate, Dixie likes to give chin kisses.

This is Baron. He is a 1.5 year old brindle male pittie mix. Baron had the same owner his entire life and she moved away and left him behind. Her elderly parents tried to take him in but decided he was more than they were up for because he was having accidents in the house. We know that he lived with an adult female pittie and was dog social with her and the parents small breed dog. We also know that he is good with small children and cats. He walks on a leash but he also acts terrified when you first put the leash on him, like maybe someone has been mean with a leash before. He’s a fairly chill, gentle soul. He likes to sit for treats but then half the time he spits them out and leaves them on the ground. 😂 Baron is a good boy who’s just had a rough start.

Tigger and her 3 siblings were found as strays. Their mom is a big white and brindle boxer/pit mix. Dad is unknown. Tigger weighs about 30lbs. Tigger is so so smart, she started sitting for treats after 2 tries and she looks right at your face for approval. Tigger also has a cute underbite! Tigger is a sweet baby and she’s quick to steal your heart. 🥰

Meet Boo Boo. She is a 7 month old female GSD/mastiff mix. She was as a stray that was tearing into some Christmas yard inflatables that weren’t hers so she’s also a convict. 😂 She walks on a leash and came into the shelter as a stray. She is very playful, enjoys toys and thinks she is a lap dog but we are teaching her to keep her feet on the ground.

This handsome young man traveled to Buffalo, NY from LA escaping euthanasia by a hair. He arrived in NY on 12/21/24. Since being in NY it has taken a few days to really see his personality come out. And we LOVE it.

Twiz is by definition a mamas boy. Cuddling his foster mom is his favorite, esp at night. He has been great with other dogs and kids. (Living with 2 currently) He does like to jump up on the couch with you, lay his head in your lap, and give endless kisses.

It does not seem as if he was ever taught basic commands so that has been a work in progress. No worries though, he has been a fast learner. We are up to sit, stay, and come. He shows no food or toy aggression and has been gentle at feeding time. He willingly goes in the crate without barking and he will let you know when it’s time to go outside. So far no accidents, we are constantly reinforcing good behavior. Good boy Twiz!

With a lot of love and some patience he is an amazing family dog. His foster mom has seen his personality blossom over the past week. He’s ready to keep learning and make his new family as happy as he can.

LeeLoo

Meet LeeLoo from Mississippi! This beautiful, brindle girl has been in her foster home for a little over week and has been adjusting very well. LeeLoo is currently living with her foster mom and dad and 4 other dogs. The foster home doesn’t have cats, but she was in a home with them prior to being surrendered to Awesome Paws and there weren’t any issues. Although she currently does not live in a home with children, kids have been over to visit and LeeLoo did well with them.

LeeLoo is young and has only been in her foster home a short time so she is still learning to go to the bathroom outside. She will need to continue to work on this in a new home. LeeLoo doesn’t mind being in the crate and can do basic commands like “sit” and “paw”. She also does well walking on a leash and while riding in the car.

LeeLoo is a perfect mix of silly and playful along with calm and cuddly. 🎉We are a day late, but we would like to wish a belated birthday to one of our members, Leanne!!🎉

Leanne has been with Awesome Paws since the very beginning(2017)!! Over the past several years, she has had multiple roles in the rescue such as fostering, volunteering, and setting up/running fundraisers. This past spring, she helped run our concession stand at Highmark Stadium for the Luke Combs concert.

Leanne has helped find homes for around 30 rescue dogs and has been a great dog mom to her own fur babies.

We are so thankful to have Leanne as a member of the APR family and we hope she had a wonderful birthday!! 🎈🎂🎈

Gypsy

Gypsy was a stray that showed up at a farm in West Virginia. The owners of the farm let her stay with them until more kennel space opened up at the shelter nearby. Now Gypsy is here in Buffalo and has been doing amazing in her foster home!

If you’re looking for a loving and playful dog who is obsessed with you, then Gypsy is your girl! She loves to give kisses and be right next to you (or on you) at all times. Gypsy has been doing well with potty-training and crate-training, but she will need to keep working on these things as she adjusts to a new home when she is adopted. Her foster home does not have any children, but the people she met in West Virginia said she did well with the kids there. Since Gypsy can be energetic at times, a home with older children vs small toddlers would be better for her. Gypsy loves playing with the three other dogs in her foster home. She does not currently live with any cats so she would need to be tested with them at a potential furever home. An ideal home for Gypsy would be one where she has lots of room to run and play. She would do best with an active family who enjoys walks and the outdoors. Gypsy, like most dogs, would also benefit from training classes with her new owner in order to have a successful transition into her new home.
