We are so excited to finally offer Pairs Challenge at our upcoming trial. If you don't have a "pair" we can make one for you! If you have two dogs - you can enter both!!!! If you have no idea what this game is - you're in luck! We have 1 spot available in Saturday's Prepare for USCSS Games Workshop. Come play with us!

Here's a description of the rules from the Rule Book: Teammates strategize to determine how to search and clear the area. Only one (1) team member may be in the search area at a time and each team member must find at least 2 hides, or be assessed a disqualifying fault. They may switch who's searching as many times as they chose, as long as only one (1) team is in the search area at any given time. They do not need to switch off after an alert call (with either a 'yes' or 'no' call from the judge).

Has your team been sniffing for a while, but you're struggling with containers in trial? Or your containers are great, but you struggle with vehicles? Maybe your team has lost some of their zest when sniffing and you want to bring back their joy? OR - you started Intro with us, but never moved on to odor. This is the class for you! Join us for K9 Nose Work ® Introduction to Odor - Level 1. While this class is meant to be an introductory class to follow Intro to K9 Nose Work ®, it would benefit so many of our advanced teams. This class meets at 2pm on Wednesdays at Supernova Dogs. This session begins on March 12th. Registration can be found on the K9 Nose Work page of our website.

AKC Scent Work Trials and an Odor Recognition Test are coming up - is your team ready? If you need some extra practice, sign up for a private lesson with Lori an March 5th or 6th. Lessons will be indoors...but not heated. Email the office if you have questions.

This week's USCSS games spotlight is on Team Spirit! We love this game because it's a great way to learn how to strategize the search as a team. The entire team watches the others search so they can see what area has already been covered, what kind of changes of behavior a dog may have had in an area, how efficiently hides can be found, etc. Plus, it's lots of fun!

If you don't have a team we will create one for you and you get to meet new sniffing friends. Others have their team planned and they come up with team names and sometimes matching outfits ;-) It is one of the most fun games to play, while also learning some very important skills.

If you want to learn how to play this game before entering it in a trial, come to our Prepare for USCSS Games workshop on Saturday, March 1st. We will play as many games as we can, but definitely Team Spirit!

With a little help from Milo here all confirmation emails have gone out for the April 5-6 North Java trials. We have lots of room in L2C and L3E. Our ELT-S trials have just an itty bitty wait list. We should have openings for 2nd dogs and FEO dogs when those dates come up.

This week's USCSS Games Spotlight goes to Heap O' Hides!! From the USCSS website: Concept: An endurance search where the search area can contain one to ten (1-10) hides, UNKNOWN. While this may seem scary to some of our newer competitors, this game can be a lot of fun!! And you don't have to find all of the hides to Qualify, you only need to earn 50 points - so why not play???

With Valentine's day coming up we played a little game called "First Date" in classes this week. Based on Michael McManus' Trivial Pursuit game the handlers had to deal with me following them around the search asking first date questions 🤣

Sometimes it's hard to mimic trial stress in a class setting, so playing a game like this can help add a little bit of distraction and stress to the search.
