Everyone welcome Taylor to the Alden Pet Spa family! Taylor is a groomer in training, and will be working alongside me as she learns the ropes. Taylor is currently a dog trainer and has a bachelor's degree in animal behavior. She is very passionate about coopative care and making the grooming experience a positive one. This is Maggie and she is a Karen! 😆 I've been grooming her every 5 weeks for a decade and she complains the whole car ride here. She doesn't hesitate to let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Her haircut isn't perfect. Despite the regularity of her care, she just doesn't like being groomed...but that's ok!

Every dog might not appreciate the expensive spa day you've booked for them. The important thing is that they can get through it with minimal stress. Maggie may not like me, but she knows me. She knows exactly what I'm going to do and in what order I do it. If you have a dog who hates grooming, do them a favor and find a groomer you like and stick with them. All dogs deserve loving care.

We're currently accepting new dogs under 80lbs. Appointments fill fast and it's basically Christmas. 😆

We could use donations of gently used bath towels if anyone is cleaning closets on this sweltering day. They can be left at the front door if we're not around.

With the heat this week, we're all doing our best to stay cool. If you have a dog that sheds, a good brush out can really help. The photo on the left is the soft undercoat that helps keep them warm in colder weather. The photo on the right is the outer coat that is made of hollow hairs that draw heat away from the body. When we brush the undercoat out, it allows air to flow through the coat. Isn't it cool how dogs have their own personal air conditioners?!

Additionally, make sure your dogs have plenty of fresh water, limit exercise, and give them a cool place to lay. My dog can be found laying in the tiled shower on hot days.😆

Willie is one of the happiest young men I have the pleasure of grooming. We're working on growing out his mustache and beard into something fun!

Willow the German Shepherd puppy is learning the ins and outs of being groomed. She only got a bath and her nails trimmed and she will probably roll in something gross when she gets home. 😆 The important thing is that she had a positive experience. We often see dogs come in for their first groom at 9 months or so. This is a really difficult and often fearful life stage for dogs. They do much better in the long run when we see them as young puppies and see them often.
We would love to help set your puppies up for success. Appointments fill fast and we're now booking the end of July.
