HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, OTSFD FAM!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Just a friendly reminder to keep in mind today:
Did you know more pets go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year? Why? Because loud noises and explosions freak animals out and they will run for safety. Unfortunately, they can’t always find their way back home. Take a little time to make sure your pets are secure and safe. Here are some tips that we hope you find useful:
• Wear off excess energy. Walk your dog before dark, keeping him well exercised and tired will help him rest a little better under any stressful situation.
• Make sure your house and garden are secure; gates locked, windows/ curtains closed and doors locked.
• Be sure your dog is tagged or microchipped.
• Prepare some “safe spots” for you pet at home. However, if they choose to go somewhere else, let them to. Turn the tv on or play some music to help block the noise.
• Keep around some high value treats, his favorite toys or chews.
• Remain calmed, and therefore provide a good role model to your dog when they’re afraid. Remember they can always pick up on our energy.
• Try not to leave your dog alone, if left alone without your reassurance they may panic and this could result in an injury.
• Consulting with your vet is also a great idea to be prepared in these kind of situations. Over the counter calming aids are great as well. We carry a wide variety of them, all made with natural and effective ingredients. And of course dog training to build up thei confidence is essential.
Not sure if your dog is stressed or anxious? Here are some of the symptoms:
• Panting
• Drooling
• Pacing
• Hiding
• Dilated pupils
• Decreased appetite
• Abnormal defecation/ urination
• Excessive grooming
Hope this can be helpful to you all!!!
HAVE A GREAT AND SAFE 4TH OF JULY!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
