This is Hercules (AKA Goober; AKA Herk Derk) he’s our foster dog and we are just starting the process for finding this goofy guy a home. He is neutered, ~90 lbs, and 7 years old. He is clicker trained and knows the basics, but he’s a pretty lazy dog just wants a comfy couch to loaf around on most of the time. He’s great with other dogs and has lived with a cat as well. He loves his people, and will warm up to strangers quickly with positive reinforcement. He is very food motivated.
Herc does set very clear boundaries with his personal space, and can clearly communicate that he’s uncomfortable without incident. As it goes for just about any dog, as long as you respect his communication, you will have no issues with him. His old life he was chained up outside 24/7 and has lived in Arlington/Alexandria for the last 2.5 years, including in an apartment, and has done very well in his transition to city life. Even with a yard, he much prefers sunbathing on the kitchen floor than spending too much time outdoors. But he loves sniff walks and exploring outside with his humans. He walks well on a leash. He’s been adjusting to city life very well, but still has some way to go!
He needs someone who is patient, and can provide the necessary enrichment this big boy needs. Experience with dogs is required to adopt (bloodhound experience is a plus, but not required!) and continued use of fear-free training methodology is non-negotiable. Herc currently resides at The Board Hound and adoption will include free enrichment daycare for the rest of his life.
Please dm us if you’re interested in adoption. There is no adoption fee, but I will require a home visit, meeting all household members, and references before approval. No kids younger than ~7yo.
