Our Story
Little Burgundy Farm was started in the spring of 2006 after we purchased a very unique 5.6 acre property in Alexandria, VA. Although one of the owners, Mark, grew up on a farm and was familiar with large animals and farm work, neither he nor his wife were equestrians. But, after purchasing the property, we were unsure what to do with the three barns and riding arena that came with the property, so the idea of Little Burgundy Farm was born. Over time, we’ve settled into a membership based “riding club” business model that seems to work for the owners and our riders. While the farm doesn’t turn much of a profit, we keep it operating because we like to share our unique little piece of the “country in the city” with our local community, particularly the kids. We believe the kids learn much more from our program than riding skills and how to care for horses.
