Good afternoon everyone!

Have you ever seen this bug outside your house or wonder what it is, what it does and could it hurt anyone or my pets??

Well the answer to that is yes, It can hurt your pet and it’s called…. Chagas Disease… also know as the “kissing bug”.

Chagas disease is a serious parasitic infection that affects dogs and other animals, and is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. It's spread by the bite or consumption of an infected kissing bug or assassin bug, which defecates on or near the bite.
The parasite then travels through the bloodstream and settles in the heart muscle, where it can cause significant complications.
Symptoms of Chagas disease in dogs include:
Lethargy
Low energy
Depression
Loss of appetite
Difficulty breathing
Heart failure
Swollen belly
Pale or purple/blue gums
Sudden death

Most infected dogs don't develop symptoms, but for those that do, there are limited treatment options. Treatments may include diuretics, blood pressure medication, medications to help the heart contract more normally, and anti-inflammatories.
The best way to prevent Chagas disease is to limit or prevent contact with kissing bugs. Dogs that live in the Southern United States or spend a lot of time outdoors are at an increased risk of contracting the disease.

So be on the look out for this bug! If you feel like your dog/pet may have been infected by it give us a call or come in asap so we can help your pet.

Good Morning Everyone!

With Christmas coming up did you know some of your plants that you have around your house may be Toxic to your pets?

During the holiday season the traditional holiday flower that people have at this time of year is the Poinsettias…. But did you know they can be mildly toxic to your cat and other pets?

Poinsettias plants are not harmful to household pets Unless the leaves and bracts are eaten in Very large quantities. Some cats that chew on the leaves may salivate and can vomit if the leaves are swallowed. If you think your cat or pet may have eaten some of the plant, here are some signs to look out for

* Vomiting
* Drooling
* Diarrhea
* Skin Irritation, such as redness, swelling and itching
* Eye Irritation

It’s always best to keep your plants out of reach from your cat or pets, but we all know they can be curious at times. If you suspect that your cat or pet may have eaten some of the plant, give us a call or bring them in so we can help you.
