❄️ Cold Weather Paw Safety Reminder ❄️
From The Team at Center Animal Clinic

As winter temperatures drop, we want to help keep your furry friends safe and comfortable when heading outdoors. One important thing to watch for is the type of ice melt or salt used on sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots—many common products can irritate or burn your pet’s paws and can be dangerous if licked off.

Here’s a quick guide to common ice melts:

🐾 Rock Salt (Sodium Chloride)
• Very harsh on paws
• Can cause cracking, irritation, and stomach upset if ingested
• Not recommended for pets

🐾 Calcium Chloride / Magnesium Chloride
• Melts ice quickly but can cause chemical burns
• Often toxic if swallowed
• Use with extreme caution or avoid

🐾 Pet-Safe Ice Melt (Recommended) ✅
• Made without harsh chemicals
• Gentler on paws and safer if accidentally ingested
• Look for labels that specifically say “Pet Safe”

Extra Winter Tips:
• Wipe your pet’s paws and belly after walks
• Consider dog booties for added protection
• Keep walks shorter in extreme cold
• Watch for limping, excessive licking, or redness of paws

If you have questions about winter safety, paw care, or choosing the right products, we’re always happy to help!

Wishing all of our Center Animal Clinic families a very Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃

We are so grateful for the trust you place in us to care for your furry family members. We hope your holiday is filled with good food, warm memories, and lots of cozy cuddles with your pets.

A few Thanksgiving safety tips for your four-legged friends:
🐾 No turkey bones – Cooked bones can splinter and cause serious digestive or choking hazards.
🍽️ Skip the fatty table scraps – Foods like turkey skin, gravy, butter, and casseroles can cause pancreatitis and tummy upset.
❌ Avoid toxic ingredients – Onions, garlic, grapes/raisins, chocolate, xylitol (artificial sweetener), and alcohol are dangerous for pets.
🧄 Watch the trash – Curious noses love turkey carcasses and food wrappers, so secure your garbage.
🚪 Door dashers – With guests coming and going, make sure pets are safe, tagged, and microchipped in case they slip outside.

📆 Holiday Hours Reminder
Center Animal Clinic will be CLOSED on Thanksgiving Day and Friday so our team can spend time with their families. We will reopen on our normal schedule after the holiday.

If you have an emergency while we’re closed, please contact your local emergency veterinary hospital.

From all of us at Center Animal Clinic, have a safe, happy, and tail-wagging Thanksgiving! 🐶🐱🧡

Huddle up, pet parents! ❄️ As the temperatures drop, The Center Animal Clinic team wants to remind everyone to prepare their pets for the cold weather!

Whether your furry friend is a homebody or an adventure-lover, safety is key this winter.

🏠 Indoor Pet Safety
* Cozy Comfort: Make sure their bedding is in a warm, draft-free area, elevated off of cold floors. Extra blankets are always a good idea!

* Dry Skin & Hydration: Cold weather can cause dry, flaky skin. Ensure they have plenty of fresh, non-frozen water to stay hydrated. A humidifier can also help!

* Watch for Hazards: Keep a close eye on pets near space heaters or fireplaces to prevent burns.

* Mental & Physical Health: If walks are shorter, increase indoor playtime or use puzzle toys to keep them stimulated and active!

🐾 Outdoor & Walk Safety
Keep it Short: If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for your pet! Limit time outdoors for all pets to prevent hypothermia or frostbite, especially for short-haired, senior, or small breeds.

Paw Protection is a Must:

* Ice, snow, and de-icing salts can irritate and crack paw pads.

* Consider pet booties or apply a paw balm/petroleum jelly before walks.

* Always wipe and dry their paws and belly thoroughly after coming inside to remove salt, ice, or chemicals.

Winter Wardrobe: Short-haired dogs, seniors, and those with thin coats benefit greatly from a sweater or jacket. Make sure to change it if it gets wet!

Toxic Alert: Antifreeze is highly toxic but can taste sweet to pets. Clean up any spills immediately and consider using propylene glycol (pet-safer) products.

Bangs on the Hood! Outdoor and feral cats often seek warmth near car engines. Honk your horn or bang on the hood before starting your vehicle to scare them out.

Remember, your pet relies on you to keep them safe and warm. If you notice signs of cold stress like shivering, anxiety, or reluctance to move, bring them inside immediately!

Have questions about your pet's specific cold weather needs or coat care? Give us a call!

🦃🍂 Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips from Center Animal Clinic 🍂🦃

The holidays are a time to gather, feast, and give thanks — but they can also bring unexpected dangers for our furry family members. Before you dive into the pumpkin pie, here are a few simple tips to keep your pets safe and stress-free this Thanksgiving:

🐾 Skip the table scraps: Many holiday foods like turkey skin, gravy, onions, grapes, raisins, and chocolate can be harmful to pets. Keep their meals simple and stick to pet-safe treats instead!

🦴 Watch the bones: Cooked turkey bones can splinter and cause choking or internal injury. Be sure to dispose of them securely.

🕯️ Mind the decorations: Curious paws and wagging tails can knock over candles or get tangled in décor. Keep them out of reach.

🚪 Company coming over? Guests can be exciting—or overwhelming! Create a quiet space for your pet with their bed, favorite toy, and water bowl if they need a break.

🚫 Be careful with trash: Pets are notorious for “dumpster diving.” Secure trash cans to prevent ingestion of dangerous leftovers.

From all of us at Center Animal Clinic, we’re thankful for our wonderful clients and your amazing pets. ❤️ Wishing you and your furry friends a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving!

📞 If you have any questions, please give us a call at 724-375-7026 — we’re here to help.
